High Winds Leave Many without Power

High winds destroyed the CAMC Healthcare privacy fence on Teays Valley Road in Hurricane on Friday, March 3.

The heavy rain and high winds that swept across the area on Friday and Friday night knocked out power to approximately 50,000 Appalachian Power customers. Cabell, Kanawha, Mason, Putnam and Wayne counties were hardest hit.

At 6:32 a.m. on Saturday, 3,059 Putnam customers were without service. Hurricane topped the list with 977 outages, followed by Poca with 876; Winfield, 645; Fraziers Bottom, 514; and Scott Depot with 167.
Appalachian Power announced at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday that 1,525 Putnam residents remained without service. Appalachian line mechanics and tree crews were able to restore power to all but 622 customers before noon on Sunday. Electric service was fully restored throughout the county prior to midnight on Sunday.
