Community Calendar for Week of April 27

The Nitro Antique Car Club will be hosting their spring swap meet at the Winfield Riding Club.

APRIL 28 – 29
April’s closet clothing giveaway will be held at Lighthouse Baptist Church from 3 to 7 p.m. on Friday and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday.

APRIL 28
Community Autism Resources & Education System (CARES) will be hosting Zumbathon® from 6 to 8 p.m. at Power Up Sports and Wellness in Hurricane. Admission is a $10 donation.

APRIL 29 – 30
The WV Pumpkin Spring Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day at the Pumpkin Park in Milton. Entry is $5 at the gate. Children 10 and under are free.

The Putnam County Main Library in Teays Valley will be showing the movie “Puss in Boots” at 10 a.m.
Calvary Baptist Church, 3653 Teays Valley Road, Hurricane, will be holding a food pantry at 8:30 a.m.

APRIL 30
The Upper Vandalia Historical Society will meet from 2 to 5 p.m. at Bancroft Mission, 5936 Charleston Road, Bancroft. The topic will be the 1957 explosion at Monsanto Chemical Company in Nitro.
ChildLaw Services and Kids Run The Nation Elevation Spring 2023 Team at Mountain View Elementary will be hosting a 5K color run/walk starting at 3:30 p.m. at Valley Park in Hurricane. Registration is from 2 to 3:15 p.m. and costs $30. For more information, call (304) 425-9973.

There will be story time at the Putnam County Main Library in Teays Valley at 10 a.m.
Author Meet & Greet with Melody Pittman, writer of “100 Things to do in West Virginia Before You Die,” will be held from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the Putnam County Main Library in Teays Valley.
Yarn Spinners meet at the Putnam County Main Library in Teays Valley at 5 p.m.

MAY 2
There will be story time at the Eleanor Library at 10 a.m. and the Poca Library at 10 a.m.

MAY 3
There will be story time at the Putnam County Main Library in Teays Valley at 10 a.m.
There will be an Express Employment hiring event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Valley Park in Hurricane. Bring two forms of ID and be prepared to take a drug screen.

MAY 4
There will be story time at the Buffalo Library and Hurricane Library at 10 a.m., and at the Main Library at 6 p.m.
The Buffalo Book Club meets at 5 p.m. at the Buffalo Library.
The Upper Vandalia Historical Society will hold an Open House & Book Club Discussion from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Hurricane Branch Library.
The Hurricane Book Club meets at 5:30 p.m. at the Hurricane Library.

MAY 5
The Nitro Antique Car Club will be holding a cruise-in starting at 5 p.m. at the Living Memorial Park, 21st Street and 2nd Avenue, Nitro.

MAY 6
St. John United Methodist Church, 4536 Teays Valley Road, Scott Depot, will be holding Taster’s Tea from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. $10 donation for adults; $5 for 5-12 year olds.
Endless Pawsabilities, 3572 Hurricane Creek Road, Hurricane, will hold their 2nd Annual Crawfish Boil starting at 1 p.m.
The Putnam County Main Library in Teays Valley will be celebrating Free Comic Book Day from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
There will be a movie showing at the Putnam County Main Library at 10 a.m.
There will be a community yard sale at the Gables of Teays Valley gated community from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Faith in Motion, 3495 Teays Valley Road, Ste B, Hurricane, will be holding an open house from 10 a.m. to noon. Learn about summer sports training sessions for youth athletes.
There will be a spring craft fair from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Wyndgate by Wyndham Hotel, 417 Hurricane Creek Road, Hurricane.
The Hurricane First Church of God, 3225 East Putnam Avenue, Hurricane, will be holding a church-wide yard sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Hurricane’s Main Street Spring Festival will be held from 1 to 5 p.m.

Allied Waste Sycamore Landfill, 3475 Sycamore Ridge Road, Hurricane, will be accepting the first 520 pounds of residential household trash for free on the second Wednesday of each month from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, call 304-562-3398.
