Community Calendar for Week of May 11

SATURDAYS THROUGH OCTOBER 28
The Putnam County Farmers Market will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the field beside Exxon/Arby’s on Route 34 in Teays Valley.

MAY 12
There will be a Family Movie night starting at 7 p.m. at Eva’s restaurant, 3225 Charleston Road, Poca. The movie is free of charge; bring your own blanket or chairs.
There will be an evening of Southern Gospel Music at 7 p.m. at Hurricane First Church of God, 3225 Putnam Avenue, Hurricane (near Dollar Tree)

MAY 13
The Macholah Ballet Company will be holding their annual recital, “With Us In The Wilderness,” from 2 to 4 p.m. at St. Albans High School. For tickets, go to https://24005.danceticketing.com
Bent Whiskey will be performing from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at Railways Bar and Grill, 17426 Charleston Road, Buffalo.
The Nitro Antique Car Club will be hosting a cruise-in at Skip Combs Fishing Lake in Eleanor starting at 2 p.m.
The 2nd Annual Pickin’ in the Park Bluegrass Festival will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Valley Park in Hurricane.
There will be a Zumba Fundraiser for Cystic Fibrosis at 10 a.m. at ZoneOut Sports, 100 Morris Court, Hurricane. The cost is $10 per person.
There will be a foam dance party for children ages 1-6 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Foam Garage, 2716 Putnam Avenue, Hurricane. The cost is $10 per child.
The Board Room, Progress Way, Hurricane (behind Walmart) will be hosting a comic book trading day from noon to 4 p.m.

MAY 16
Putnam Wellness Coalition will be hosting a seminar called “Xylazine: What the Community Needs to Know about ‘Tranq’” at 5:30 p.m. at Valley Park in Hurricane.
The Hurricane Civic Chorus will be having their 35th Anniversary Spring Concert at 7 p.m. at Forrest Burdette Memorial United Methodist Church, Putnam Avenue, Hurricane. Attendance is free.

MAY 18
The Night Market will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. at Valley Park in Hurricane.

MAY 19
The Dumont Tri-County YMCA 29th Annual Golf Tournament will start at 8:15 a.m. at Sleepy Hollow Golf Club in Hurricane.

MAY 20
Putnam County Sheriff’s Department will be holding a Hiring Test at 9 a.m. at Poca High School. Apply at https://putnamcounty sheriffwv.com/recruitment
There will be a food pantry starting at 8:30 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, 3653 Teays Valley Road, Hurricane.
The Hurricane 100k Course Preview and Group Training Run will start at 8 a.m. at Meeks Mountain Trails, Hurricane City Park.
Cops N Rodders Classic Car Club will be holding a cruise-in from 5 p.m. until dusk at the Putnam County Bank parking lot in Hurricane (behind McDonalds). For more information, call 304-562-6903.

MAY 21
Third Sunday Board Games will be held from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Board Room, 270 Progress Way, Hurricane (behind Walmart).

MAY 23
Business After Hours will be held at the Putnam County Bank Loan Center (interstate branch) in Hurricane from 5 to 7 p.m.

MAY 24
There will be a backyard gardening workshop at 11 a.m. at the Eleanor Library.
There will be lung cancer screenings from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Valley Health Care Systems – Hurricane. For an appointment, call 304-760-6040.
At approximately 5 p.m., Run for the Wall Riders will be exiting I-64 at Hurricane and traveling to Valley Park to spend the evening. Please plan to wear your best patriotic gear, line the sidewalks and welcome these riders to Hurricane.

MAY 25
There will be a home school science class from 10 a.m. to noon at the red barn at Hurricane City Park. Learn about compost.

MAY 26 – 28

There will be an electronics recycling event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Hurricane High School.
