Valley Park’s Night Market Make Westward Move

Dre Michael Ray of Hurricane takes a wild ride on the mechanical bull.

Once a month throughout the summer and fall, Valley Park will be hosting a special Night Market upon the green between the Convention Center and Commons building. The event showcases local artisans and entertainment, and features a variety of fun activities as well.

This month’s Night Market was the second in the series, which started in May. The theme for the June 15 event was Country Night. Visitors were encouraged to wear cowboy boots and hats. In keeping with the country western theme, there was a mechanical bull for the daring to ride, and a husband calling contest for the ladies. Popular local band Bent Whiskey performed a variety of country and rock tunes throughout the evening.

Four Night Markets remain until the end of the season:

July 20 – Kid’s Night – There will be free face painting, children’s crafts, and other activities. The Foam Garage will be on site for the event.
August 24 – This event will be held in conjunction with the West Virginia Cupcake Festival. The theme will be the 1980’s.
September 21 – Autumn Nights – This event will feature a fall theme. Activities to be determined.
October 26 – Fright Market – This Halloween themed night will feature trick or treat for the kids, games, a children’s haunted house, story time, and other activities.

Bent Whiskey was the featured performer for the country western evening at the Night Market.
Teen Miss Yuletide 2022 Alyssa Smith of Poca was the winner of the Husband Calling Contest. At only 16, Alyssa does not have a husband, but she still had a fun time creating a fictional husband named “Ricky” for the contest.
