’Twas as in the Days of Old

Betsy Allen was among visitors from Hurricane to view galloping knights attempt to unseat each other at the West Virginia Renaissance Festival in Greenbrier County this last weekend.

The West Virginia Renaissance Festival is held each weekend in June at Hollow Hills Farm near Alta, a short distance from Lewisburg.

The festival is a yearly event which features a reconstructed medieval village. Besides jousting, the festival treats visitors to acrobatic equestrian acts, sword fighting, archery, mermaids and pirates, fire breathers, glass blowing demonstrations, and a wide variety of performers, dancers, singers, and comedians. The public is encouraged to dress up for the occasion in either historic or fantasy inspired costumes. Each weekend features a different theme. Pirates and barbarians were among this year’s offerings.
