Putnam Grand Jury Indicts 37 Individuals

Putnam County Prosecuting Attorney, Mark A. Sorsaia, reports that indictments were returned by the July 2023 Term Putnam County Grand Jury alleging thirty-seven (37) persons committed seventy-eight (78) felonies and forty-six (46) misdemeanors. The following is the defendant’s year of birth, last known address, and offenses for which they were indicted. Almost half (46%) of those indicted have non-Putnam County addresses.

James M. Baker (1990) of North Carolina – Destruction of property and conspiracy to commit destruction of property.

Steven R. Baldwin (1983) of 2075 Dudding Lane, Culloden – Grand larceny, breaking and entering an automobile x2, and petit larceny.

Thomas L. Byerly (1966) of North Carolina – Possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance x2.

John P. Cottrill (1972) of Sandfork, WV – Breaking and entering.

Jonathan C. Dunfee (1985) of Huntington – Driving on a revoked license-DUI related, third offense, driving in an impaired state, second offense, driving a motor vehicle without a current and valid certificate of inspection, driving a motor vehicle without proper equipment, and driving on a suspended license, third offense.

Davonta S. Floyd (1995) of South Charleston – Driving in an impaired state, third offense and obstructing an officer.

Jason L. Fox (1977) of 410 Homebrew Holler, Buffalo – Strangulation, domestic battery, violation of bail x4.

Justin C. Freeman (1981) of 324 Panther Branch Road, Culloden – Fraudulent scheme and embezzlement.

Verion Fry (1954) 96 Sycamore Road, Hurricane – Failure to provide notice of registration change x14.

Adam W. Garrison (1987) of 2055 18 Mile Creek Road, Buffalo – Malicious assault, domestic battery and domestic assault.

Daniel E. Gatewood (1969) of 2101 Main Street, Apt. 6, Nitro – Failure to provide notice of registration change x2.

Kevin M. Groth (1989) of Leon – Person prohibited from possessing a firearm x2.

Jacqueline D. Harden (1961) of St. Albans – Possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance x3, driving a motor vehicle without a current and valid certificate of inspection and driving a motor vehicle without proper equipment.

Farrah A. Haynes (1977) of South Charleston – Possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance.

Sequoia R. Hundley (1995) of Charleston – Embezzlement, computer fraud, and fraudulent scheme.

Blair T. Itson (1989) of Indianapolis, Indiana – Possession of a stolen vehicle and person prohibited from possessing a firearm.

Brandon D. Jacobs (1990) of Detroit, Michigan – Possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and obstructing an officer.

Don C. Johnson (1987) of Baltimore, Maryland – Fleeing in a vehicle from a law-enforcement officer while under the influence of a controlled substance, fleeing in a vehicle from a law-enforcement officer in reckless indifference to the safety of others and possession of a controlled substance.

Stacie Johnson (1986) of P.O. Box 206, Hurricane – Possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance x2.

Michael R. Jordan (1978) of 113 Elm Street, Buffalo – Driving on a revoked license-DUI related, third offense, possession of a controlled substance, driving on a suspended license, driving a motor vehicle without the required security, improper use of registration, and trespassing.

Rhiannon L. Keener (2002) of Charleston – Fraudulent use of an unauthorized access device x3 and petit larceny.

Edward A. Layton (1992) of 309 Pebble Creek Drive, Fraziers Bottom – Driving under the influence of controlled substance, child neglect creating a substantial risk of serious bodily injury x4, and person prohibited from possessing a firearm.

Dario J. Martin (1990) of Charleston – Strangulation, domestic battery and obstructing an officer.

Amanda S. Mills (1991) of 1231 Main Avenue, Nitro – Attempt to commit burglary and petit larceny.

Ellen M. Mitchell (1981) of 3229 Virginia Avenue, Hurricane – Grand larceny, driving in an impaired state, third offense, and driving on a revoked license-DUI related.

John W. Moss, III (1965) of 2025 Cherry Street, Hurricane – Third offense impaired and driving on a revoked license-DUI related.

Ricky L. Skeens (1975) of 19760 Buffalo Road, Apt. 2, Buffalo – Failure to provide notice of registration change.

Clayton M. Spaulding (2000) of 404 Teresa Street, Scott Depot – Failure to provide notice of registration change x7.

Stephanie Spurlock (1984) of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky – Grand larceny and conspiracy to commit grand larceny.

Wetzel G. Stanley (1956) of 1447 Panther Lick Road, Culloden – Violation of a protective order x2 and harassment x2.

Calvin A. Thaxton (1991) of Charleston – Burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary, grand larceny, conspiracy to commit grand larceny, petit larceny and conspiracy to commit petit larceny.

George D. Valentine (1967) of Huntington – Grand larceny.

Paul E. Walker (1975) of Huntington – Person prohibited from possessing a firearm x2, and driving on a revoked license-DUI related.

James P. Warden (1992) of 102 Oak Street, Hurricane – Breaking and entering, petit larceny, and destruction of property.

Izaak B. Watkins (1990) of Currie, North Carolina – Destruction of property and conspiracy to commit destruction of property.

Ryan D. white (1991) of St. Albans – Destruction of property, leaving the scene of an accident, and reckless driving.

Michael K. Workman (1971) of 102 Brookside Drive, Scott Depot – Soliciting a minor via computer and distribution and exhibiting of material depicting minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

Further, pursuant to Rule 3.6(b)(6) of the West Virginia Rules of Professional Conduct governing attorneys, the fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime, is merely an accusation, and that the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
