PUTNAM COUNTY FAIR HORSE SHOW: All About 4-H and Scholarships

Brandy Whittington turns a tight corner in the barrel racing class at the Putnam County Fair Horse Show.

The Fourth Annual Putnam County Fair Horse Show was held last Saturday, August 5, at the Winfield Riding Club. Over seventy participants from all over the area, as well as Ohio, competed in the event. The show featured 39 individual classes, including barrel racing, bareback riding, a pet class, costumed riders, and more.

Monies raised at the event went towards the Derek Casto Memorial Scholarship Fund which benefits 4-H and FFA. A saddle donated by Snap Lawn Care Services of Hurricane was also raffled off at the event. Kaylee Bellengee of Scott Depot was the winner.

The Derek Casto Memorial Scholarship will be given out to two lucky students at the 2024 Putnam County Fair. The winners of the 2023 Derek Casto Memorial Scholarship were Whitney Good and Keirsten Kessell.

“This was a very good event,” said Samaria Cobb, one of the organizers. “We want to thank everyone for helping the kids out. Be on the look out, because we will be having the show around the same time next year. The event is open to everyone. There is no age limit, and there are classes for all ages.”
