200 Mary Street in Hurricane on January 3, 2024.
A roaring inferno at 200 Mary Street in Hurricane destroyed a two-story home in the early morning hours of Wednesday, January 3rd.
The alarm was called in around 4 a.m. by a neighbor who was awakened by the brightness of the flames engulfing the structure.
Hurricane Fire Chief Mike Hoffman said the residents were awakened by fire alarms and barely had time to escape before the fire blocked the stairwell from the second floor bedrooms.
“We preach working fire alarm safety. Here is a case in which it saved lives,” said Hoffman.
Hoffman did not have an estimate of the loss but homes in same neighborhood are valued at $350,000 or greater.
Insurance investigators will attempt to determine the cause of the blaze.
