Community Calendar for Week of January 11

NOW – FEBRUARY
There is a free open gym for 1st through 5th graders every Saturday from to 11 a.m. at ZoneOut Sports, Morris Court, Hurricane.

JANUARY 11
There will be a reading journal workshop at 5 p.m. at the Buffalo Library.

JANUARY 12
There will be an American Red Cross Blood Drive from 12:00 p.m.—5:00 p.m. at Forrest Burdette Memorial United Methodist Church, Putnam Avenue, Hurricane. Call 1-800-733-2767, or visit redcrossblood.org and enter “hurricanecom” to schedule an appointment.
The Foam Garage, 2716 Putnam Avenue, hurricane, will be holding a foam dance party for children ages 7-14 from 7 to 9 p.m. The cost is $10 per child.

JANUARY 13
There will be a food pantry from 9 a.m. to noon at Winfield Nazarene Church, 10822 Winfield Road.
The Putnam County Main Library in Teays Valley will be showing the movie “October Sky” at 4 p.m.

Lighthouse Baptist Church, 2440 US Route 60, Hurricane, will hold a food pantry from 9 to 11 a.m.
The Foam Garage, 2716 Putnam Avenue, hurricane, will be holding a foam dance party for children ages 1-6 from 10 a.m. to noon. The cost is $10 per child.

JANUARY 14
Winfield High School’s show choirs, General Admission and Emerald Elegance, will be hosting their premiere show at 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 at the door.

JANUARY 15 – 16
There will be a School’s Out Mini Adventure Science Camp from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Zoology Zone Science Center, Valley Park, Hurricane. Cost: $50/child for 1 day or $95/child for both days. Register by going to https://form.jotform.com/233605779286166

JANUARY 16
The Board Room, located behind Walmart in Hurricane, will be holding a board game night from 6 to 9 p.m.

JANUARY 17
The Putnam County Main Library in Teays Valley will be showing the movie “The Martian” at 4 p.m.

JANUARY 18
The Bridge Church, 279 Dairy Road, Poca, will be holding a free clothing, hot meal, and food pantry event from 5:30 to 8 p.m.
The Bancroft Mission, 5963 Charleston Road, Bancroft, willbe holding an evening of praise and thanksgiving starting at 7 p.m.

JANUARY 19
Otter Branch Church, 2402 18 Mile Creek, Buffalo, will be hosting an escape room for kindergarten through high school from 7 p.m. to midnight.

JANUARY 20
There will be a bee hotel and hive painting workshop from 10 a.m. to noon at the West Sattes Community Center, 234 Lee Avenue, Nitro.
The River to Ridges Blizzard Blow Out Disc Golf Tournament will start at 10 a.m. at the Eleanor Park. For more information, call 304-541-3858.
There will be an informational meeting for the Tri-State Film Club from 10 a.m. to noon at Teays ValleY Church of God, 185 Connection Point, Scott Depot.
There will be a workshop on “Choosing Forgiveness When Forgetting Isn’t an Option” from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Zoology Zone Science Center, Valley Park, Hurricane. The cost is $30 a seat which can be reserved by texting “Forgiveness” to 304-840-9300.
Local historian Philip Hatfield will be discussing his new book, “A History of Putnam County, West Virginia, in the Civil War,” at 12:30 p.m. at the Hurricane City Hall.

JANUARY 21
Visual Volume, the Poca High School Show Choir, will be hosting their Dot Debut dinner theatre and show choir performance. Dinner will be served from 1 to 4 p.m., with shows at 2:30 and 4 p.m. Tickets are $25 at the door for adults and $20 for children ages 5 – 10.

JANUARY 23
Junior Explorers ages 0-6 can learn about the wonders of the universe and experience amazing animals from around the world from 9 a.m. to noon at Zoology Zone Science Center, located in Valley Park in Hurricane. Adults ages 13 and up: $8. Kids 4-12: $6. Ages 0-12: free.
The Huriricane Civic Chorus will be holding an openhouse from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Forrest Burdette Memorial United Methodist Church, Putnam Avenue, Hurricane. New members welcome.
