High School Math Field Day Winners

Teams from Buffalo High, Calvary Baptist, Hurricane High, Poca High, Teays Valley Christian, and Winfield High met at Toyota in Buffalo on January 30 to compete for math honors, scholarships, and an opportunity to represent Putnam County at the Regional Math Field Day competition to be held at the University of Charleston on February 27th.

The top scoring senior and two top scorers from each school received recognition awards. The top three ninth grade and ten best 10-12 grade scorers from the entire field won the honor of participating in the Regional Math Field Day event. Additionally, the top ten 10-12 grade finishers were awarded Math Excellence Scholarships valued at $200.

The top scoring seniors by school were: Buffalo High — Ethan Blackshire; Calvary Baptist — Blake Lipscomb; Hurricane High — Alfred Biju; Poca High — Logan Ryder; Teays Valley Christian — Noah Taylor; and Winfield High — Wyatt Moore.

The top two scorers from each school were: Cole Whittington & Ethan Blackshire, Buffalo High; Matthew DeGroff & Aiden Carney, Calvary Baptist; Alfred Biju & Caleb Hodges, Hurricane High; Jaxson Davis & Logan Ryder, Poca High; Nick Young & Levi Moles, Teays Valley Christian; Wyatt Moore & Mason Dailey, Winfield High.

Ninth grade winners were Connor Westfall, HHS – 1st; Paxton Haddox, HHS – 2nd; and Maddox Hardin, HHS – 3rd. Nikolaus Von Wulffen of WHS is the 9th grade alternate for the Regional competition.

Upperclassmen (10-12) winners were: 1st Place: Wyatt Moore, WHS; 2nd Place: Alfred Biju, HHS; 3rd Place: Mason Dailey, WHS; 4th Place: Cole Whittington, BHS; 5th Place: Nick Young, TVCS; 6th Place: (Tie) Caleb Hodges, HHS & Erin Walls, WHS; 8th Place: Anthony Marinaro, WHS; 9th Place: Allison Hoffman, WHS; and 10th Place: Parker Dotson, HHS. Alternate 1 is Jacob Holtzapfel, WHS and Alternate 2 is Haden Hodge, HHS.

Winfield High School won top team honors.
