Community Calendar for Week of May 2

  • The Gritt’s Farm Spring Festival will be held on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. General admission tickets are $16.95. Gritt’s Farm is located at 864 Gritt Road, Buffalo. To purchase tickets, go to https://grittsfarm.com/events/spring-festival.

MAY 2 – 4

  • Putnam County Aging Program, located at 2558 Winfield Road, St. Albans, will be holding a “Walk to End Alzheimer’s” yard sale fundraiser. Hours are Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon.

  • The Eleanor Event Planning Committee will meet at 5:30 p.m. at the Eleanor Town Hall.
  • The Piano Man will be performing from 6 to 8 p.m. at Barnyard BBQ, 1101 Hospital Drive, Hurricane.


  • The Nitro Antique Car Club will be holding a cruise-in from 5 p.m. to dusk at 2nd Avenue, 21st Street, Nitro.
  • There will be a classic car auction starting at 1 p.m. at Capital City Auto Auction, 600 Winfield Road, St. Albans. Preview from 1 to 6 p.m. on May 2.
  • Lee’s Studio of Dance, 8325 Winfield Road, Winfield, will be hosting drop-in dance classes. Contemporary dance at 6 p.m.; ballroom dance at 7 p.m.; and hip hop at 8 p.m. The cost is $15 per class.
  • The Putnam County Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a Business Before Business meet-up from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at Edward Jones Financial Advisor, 996 State Route 34, Hurricane.
  • The Putnam County Library will be hosting a homeschool field day from 2 to 4 p.m. at Valley Park in Hurricane.


  • The Putnam County Farmers Market will be held every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the field next to Exxon on Route 34, Teays Valley.
  • The Country Roads Farmers’ Market will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Valley Park in Hurricane.

MAY 4 – 5

  • There will be a spring pop up vendor event from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days at 1267 Rentals LLC, 17588 Charleston Road, Buffalo.


  • Buffalo Church of the Nazarene, 25053 Buffalo Road, will be hosting a Men’s Prayer Breakfast starting at 7:30 a.m.
  • Buffalo Church of the Nazarene, 25053 Buffalo Road, will be holding a May The Lord Be With You community party at noon. There will be free food and prizes.
  • My Little Sunshine Boutique and Beauty, 420 1st Avenue South, Nitro, will be holding their grand opening from noon to 6 p.m.
  • Bancroft Church of God Mission will be hosting a Mother’s Day Lunch from noon to 2 p.m. at Bancroft Town Park.
  • There will be a Hometown areawide clean up from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dumpsters will be placed at Hometown Park for the day and staffed with volunteers.
  • The Winfield High School Show Choirs General Admission and Emerald Elegance will be holding a community show starting at 2 p.m. Admission is by donation.

  • Reed’s Entertainment, Putnam Village, Teays Valley, will be hosting a May the 4th Be With You party from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Lighthouse Baptist Church, 2440 US Route 60, Hurricane, will be holding a clothing giveaway from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • There will be a comic trade day from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Board Room, located behind the Hurricane Walmart.
  • Community Autism Resources & Education Systems (CARES) will be hosting a Star Wars themed family fun day from noon to 3 p.m. at Valley Park in Hurricane.
  • The Hurricane Main Street Festival will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. and features a Star Wars theme. Star Wars costume contest at 2 p.m.
  • Risen King Church, 2438 US Route 60, Hurricane, will be holding a church-wide yard sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.


  • The First Baptist Church of Nitro, 2200 2nd Avenue, Nitro, will be hosting a Mother’s Day Tea and Tacos at noon.
  • Ever Present will be singing at 10 a.m. at Mount Union Church, 19268 Jerry’s Run Road, Pliny. A covered dish meal will be served afterwards.
  • Spot Energy & Nutrition, 3475 Teays Valley Road A, Hurricane, will be holding a Sunday Social Women’s Only Event at 5 p.m.


  • Global missionaries Gary and Penney Sidle, assigned to Zambia, Africa, will be speaking at 6:30 p.m. at the Nitro Church of the Nazarene, 1400 Sattes Circle, Nitro.


  • The Dress For Success clothing drive will be held from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Area 34, 971 State Route 34, Teays Valley. Donate gently used business attire, nice jeans and tops, scrubs, and accessories. For more information, call 304-757-6510.

  • There will be a workshop on bee keeping for beginners at 11:30 a.m. at the Eleanor Library.
  • The Putnam County Chamber’s Network of Women will be holding a trivia night from 6 to 8 p.m. at 1267 Rentals, 17588 Charleston Road, Buffalo. The cost to play is $15.
  • Celebration Villa of Teays Valley, 4000 Overlook Drive, Hurricane, will be hosting an open house starting at 4:30 p.m.
