Community Calendar for Week of May 9

  • The Putnam County Farmers Market will be held every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the field next to Exxon on Route 34, Teays Valley.
  • The Country Roads Farmers’ Market will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Valley Park in Hurricane.


  • The Gritt’s Farm Spring Festival will be held on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. General admission tickets are $16.95. Gritt’s Farm is located at 864 Gritt Road, Buffalo. To purchase tickets, go to https://grittsfarm.com/events/spring-festival.


  • Putnam County EMS will be offering a Mental Health Resilience Officer Course during Mental Health Awareness Month. For more information, call 304-586-0248.
  • There will be a workshop on bee keeping for beginners at 11:30 a.m. at the Eleanor Library.
  • The Putnam County Chamber’s Network of Women will be holding a trivia night from 6 to 8 p.m. at 1267 Rentals, 17588 Charleston Road, Buffalo. The cost to play is $15.
  • Celebration Villa of Teays Valley, 4000 Overlook Drive, Hurricane, will be hosting an open house starting at 4:30 p.m.

MAY 10 – 12

  • The Bridge Church, 279 Dairy Road, Poca, will be hosting their annual women’s conference with guest host Mrs. Bonnie Huffman. To register, go to thebridgepoca.org

MAY 10

  • Murder & Merriment Present: “Fashion Runway: Murdering Divas” Murder Mystery and Dinner AT 7 p.m. at Valley Park in Hurricane. Tickets are $55 per person. To register, go to https://putnam-county-parks.ticketleap.com/murder-and-merriment-present
  • There will be live music with Andrew and Aaron Kidd at 8 a.m. at The Pallet Bar, 3999 Teays Valley Drive, Suite A, Scott Depot.
  • The Hurricane First Church of God, 3225 East Putnam Avenue, will be holding their monthly, second Friday Gospel Sing starting at 7 p.m.
  • There will be a foam dance party for children ages 7-14 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Foam Garage, 2716 Putnam Avenue, Hurricane. The cost is $10 per child.

MAY 11

  • The Macholah Ballet will be holding their annual recital, SeaSalt + SunLight, starting at 2 p.m. at St. Albans High School. Tickets go on sale April 22.
  • There will be a craft fair to benefit the Nitro High School Show Choir from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Nitro High School gym.
  • Swan Lake Campground, 3928 Charleston Road, Red House will be holding a community fun day. There will be all day fishing, food, and music. Freehand the Band will be performing from 1 to 4 p.m.
  • There will be a Goodwill donation drive at the Putnam County Fairgrounds in Eleanor. Pack the mobile donation station and support the fair with your donations.
  • The Putnam Career and Technical Center’s annual car show will be held from noon to 3 p.m. at the school in Eleanor. Registration is from 10 a.m. to noon.
  • The City of Winfield will be holding their annual cleanup between the hours of 7 and 11 a.m. The collection site will be located just west of Advance Auto.
  • Teays Valley Presbyterian Church Preschool, 5339 Teays Valley Road, Scott Depot, will be holding a closing sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • The Endless Pawsabilities 3rd Annual Crawfish Boil will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. at Endless Pawsabilities, 3736 Hurricane Creek Road, Hurricane.
  • The Tortoise Trot 5K hosted by Zoology Zone Science Center will be held at Valley Park in Hurricane. Registration starts at 8 a.m.; walk at 9 a.m.
  • There will be a meatloaf pop-up fundraiser for Katey Mullins’ medical fund at 4:30 p.m. at St. Timothy in the Valley Episcopal Church, 3434 Teays Valley Road, Hurricane. The cost is $15 per plate/to go box.
  • Lighthouse Baptist Church, 2440 US Route 60, Hurricane, will be holding a food pantry from 9 to 11 a.m.
  • There will be a foam dance party for children ages 1-6 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Foam Garage, 2716 Putnam Avenue, Hurricane. The cost is $10 per child.

MAY 12

  • Buffalo Church of the Nazarene, 25053 Buffalo Road, will be offering muffins for Mother’s Day at 9 a.m.
  • There will be a Meet the Candidates event at 6 p.m. at Meeks Mountain Trails at Hurricane City Park.

MAY 13

  • The Arts in Action student art exhibition will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Zoology Zone Science Center at Valley Park in Hurricane.

MAY 14

  • The West Virginia Symphony Orchestra presents AARP WV’s Paddle sand Preludes: A Pickleball Tournament from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Nitro City Park. The cost is $40 per player.
  • FreshAir indoor air filters and the Putnam Chamber of Commerce will be holding coffee and questions at 9 a.m. at Area 34, 971 WV Route 34, Hurricane.

MAY 15

  • Putnam Adult Education Center, 12056 Winfield Road, Winfield, will be holding a one stop pop-up event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Explore career and education opportunities.

MAY 16

  • The Confidence Elementary Choir presents “Joining Together in Song” showcasing several great works about the joy of singing together. This event will be held at 7 p.m. at Buffalo High School.
  • Children can learn about the sun’s UV rays andmake bracelets that glow with UV power at 3:30 p.m. at the Eleanor Library.
  • There will be an educational seminar on budgeting, investing and retirement planning from 6 to 8 p.m. at Area 34, 971 State Route 34, Hurricane.
  • Valley Park in Hurricane will be hosting a night market from 6 to 9 p.m. This month’s theme is Family Night.
