Community Calendar for Week of May 16

MAY – OCTOBER

  • The Putnam County Farmers Market will be held every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the field next to Exxon on Route 34, Teays Valley.
  • The Country Roads Farmers’ Market will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Valley Park in Hurricane.

MAY 16

  • The Confidence Elementary Choir presents “Joining Together in Song” showcasing several great works about the joy of singing together. This event will be held at 7 p.m. at Buffalo High School.
  • Children can learn about the sun’s UV rays andmake bracelets that glow with UV power at 3:30 p.m. at the Eleanor Library.
  • There will be an educational seminar on budgeting, investing and retirement planning from 6 to 8 p.m. at Area 34, 971 State Route 34, Hurricane.
  • A plant club will meet at 6 p.m. at the Valley Park Conference Center in Hurricane.
  • Valley Park in Hurricane will be hosting a night market from 6 to 9 p.m. This month’s theme is Family Night.

MAY 17

  • Bancroft Mission will be holding an evening of praise starting at 7 p.m. at Bancroft Community Park.
  • Jungle Club Resort Cafe and Play, 11624 Winfield Road, Unit 4, Winfield, will be holding a free children’s clothing swap from noon to 8 p.m.
  • There will be a vintage sale from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Bungalow, 109 Beechwood Estates, Scott Depot.
  • The Dumont Tri-County YMCA Golf Tournament will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. at Sleepy Hollow Golf Club in Hurricane.

MAY 18

  • There will be a community yard sale and hot dog sale at Mount Union Church, 19268 Jerry’s Run Road, Pliny, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • There will be a benefit spaghetti dinner and silent auction at noon at Elizabeth Baptist Church, 410 Washington Street, Bancroft.
  • Putnam County Democratic Women’s Club will be having their annual May Tea at the Red House, 401 Roosevelt Bld., Eleanor, at noon. RSV by calling (304) 543-2115.
  • The Tri-State Film Club will be meeting at 10 a.m. at the Teays Valley Church of God, 185 Connection Point, Scott Depot.
  • Michaels in Liberty Square will be holding their official grand opening celebration from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Food trucks, music, door prizes, and more.
  • Heritage Barbershop, 2135 US Route 60, Culloden, will be celebrating their fifth anniversary from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • The Cops N Rodders Classic Car Club will be holding a cruise-in at the Putnam County Bank parking lot in Hurricane (behind McDonalds) from 5 p.m. to dusk. For more information, call 304-638-7614.

  • The Women’s Club of Nitro will meet at 6 p.m. at the clubhouse located at 2205 2nd Avenue and 23rd Street, Nitro.
  • There are free line dancing lessons at Brookse’s Bar and Grill, 13184 Winfield Road, Winfield, every Tuesday starting at 7:30 p.m.

MAY 21

  • The Putnam Area Robotics Team will be holding an open house from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Winfield Middle School.
  • The Hurricane Civic Chorus will be holding their spring concert at 7 p.m. at Forrest Burdette United Methodist Church, Putnam Avenue, Hurricane.
  • The Putnam County Chamber of Commerce will be holding Business After Hours at the Putnam County Bank Loan Center in Hurricane from 5 to 7 p.m.

MAY 22

  • Run to the Wall comes to Living Memorial Park, Second Avenue and 21st Street, Nitro. Event begins at 4 p.m.; riders begin to arrive at 5:15 p.m.
  • There will be a Painting for a Purpose workshop at 6 p.m. at The Garage, 3057 Mount Vernon Road, Hurricane. The cost is $40 per person. To register, text Paint1 to 41444.

MAY 23

  • Learn how to make your own stationary paper from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the Poca Library.

MAY 24 – 26
The Vandalia Gathering festival of traditional Appalachian music, dance, and crafts will be held at the Capitol Complex in Charleston.

MAY 24

  • The Nitro Pool, located at 1650 Park Avenue, will be holding a kickoff party from 5 to 9 p.m. Free admission.

MAY 25 – 27

  • The Eleanor Pool will be open for Memorial Day weekend. The pool will officially open for the season on June 1.
  • Waves of Fun in Valley Park, Hurricane, will be open for Memorial Day weekend.

MAY 25

  • Bright Futures/McCoy Academy, 3361 Teays Valley Road, Hurricane, will be hosting a fundraiser yard sale and market from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Jeepers Invade Hurricane from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Putnam County Bank loan office parking lot (behind McDonalds).
