Community Calendar for Week of June 27

NOW – OCTOBER

  • The Putnam County Farmers Market will be held every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the field next to Exxon on Route 34, Teays Valley.
  • The Country Roads Farmers’ Market will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Valley Park in Hurricane.

NOW – JUNE 28

  • First Baptist Church of Nitro, 2200 2nd Avenue, Nitro, will be holding What A Mess! Vacation Bible School from 6 to 8 p.m. nightly. There will be a pool party kick off on June 23 at 7:15 p.m. at the Nitro Pool.
  • Freedom’s Promise Ministries, 19966 Winfield Road, Fraziers Bottom, will be holding Finding Jesus Vacation Bible School from 6:30 to 8 p.m. nightly.
  • Judson Baptist Church, 72 Addington Place, Winfield, will be holding Hometown Nazareth Vacation Bible School from 6 to 8 p.m. nightly.
  • The Pulse Church, 5368 State Route 34, Winfield, will be holding Stellar Vacation Bible School from 6 to 8:30 p.m. nightly.
  • There will be a kids’ music camp for grades 2-6 at Teays Valley Presbyterian Church, 5339 Teays Valley Road, Scott Depot. Drop off: 8-8:30 a.m.; pick-up at noon. For more information and to register, call 304-982-1541.

  • Learn about dental hygiene with Ghareeb Dental at 10 a.m. at the Poca Library.
  • The Putnam Chamber of Commerce will be holding a Business After Hours meet up at 5 p.m. at Huntington Bank, 1905 1st Avenue, Nitro. RSVP by calling 304-757-6510.
  • There will be a ribbon cutting at 10 a.m. for the new Almost Heaven swing at Valley Park in Hurricane.

JUNE 28 – 29

  • Buffalo Church of God, 260 Church Street, Buffalo, will be holding a yard sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

JUNE 28

  • Creekside Church, 488 Charleys Creek Road, Culloden, will be hosting a free summer movie (The Lion King) at 6 p.m.
  • The Wildwood Players will be performing starting at 8 p.m. at VFW 9097, 3836 Teays Valley Road, Hurricane.
  • Fitness Friday: There will be a field day at 10 a.m. at Valley Park in Hurricane. The event features egg races, hula hooping, and a giant parachute. Both children and adults are welcome to participate.

JUNE 29

  • Bowles Ridge Community Church, 2443 Crown Hill Road, Leon, will be holding a community day and hot dog dinner from 3 to 7 p.m.
  • There will be a book release party for Tony Harrah’s new book, “Spare Parts,” from 7 to 9 p.m. at Bake My Day, 14 Bank Street, Nitro. Music by folk singer Andrew Adkins.
  • There will be a resource and street fair at Putnam Village Shopping Center in Teays Valley from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.
  • Putnam County Moose #2729 will be holding a summer kickoff party from 7 to 11 p.m. at the VFW Post 9097, 3836 Teays Valley Road, Hurricane.
  • There will be a SIM Racing Showdown at Yes Chevrolet, 200 Saturn Way, Hurricane, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be three live racing sim setups in the showroom.

JUNE 30

  • There will be special singing at 6 p.m. at Community Tabernacle, Route 34, Liberty.

JULY 2

  • The City of Nitro will be sponsoring a free drive-in movie starting at dusk at 1700 Park Avenue, Nitro. This week’s movie will be “Migration.”
  • There will be a Police K9 Demonstration at 2 p.m. at the baseball field at the Hurricane City Park.
  • Community Autism Resources and Education Systems will be holding a summer meet-up for neurodiverse children and families from 10 a.m. to noon at Valley Park in Hurricane.

JULY 3

  • There will be Stand Up Paddleboard lessons from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Winfield Boat Ramp, 178 2nd Street, Winfield. The cost for a lesson is $29. To reserve, call or text 304-610-8999.
  • There will be an Express Employment Professionals recruitment and hiring event from noon to 4 p.m. at Area 34, 971 WV Route 34, Teays Valley.
  • The Hurricane Hundred K Twilight Trainer and Tailgate will start at 8 p.m. at Meeks Mountain Trails, Hurricane City Park.

JULY 4

  • The 11th Annual July 4th 5K Run/Walk will start at 8 a.m. at the Buffalo Town Hall. Registration begins at 7:15 p.m. To pregister, call or text 304-546-0763.
  • The Town of Buffalo will be holding their Fourth of July Parade at 1 p.m. Music from 2 to 10 p.m. Fireworks at 10 p.m.
  • The City of Hurricane will be holding their Independence Day Celebration. Parade at 2 p.m. Fun events at City Park from 3 to 8 p.m. Fireworks at 10 p.m.

JULY 5

  • The Nitro Antique Car Club will be holding a cruise-in from 5 p.m. to dusk at 2nd Avenue, 21st Street, Nitro.

JULY 6

  • There will be an antique tractor pull at 1 p.m. at the West Virginia Farm Museum in Point Pleasant.
  • The Poca River Hunting, Fishing and Recreation Club will be holding an 80’s themed glow party from 7 p.m. to midnight at 786 Dupont Road, Poca. The cost is $6 per guest.
  • There will be a comic trade day from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at The Board Room, behind Walmart in Hurricane.
