Vacation Bible School — A Labor of Love

Vacation Bible School at Bethel Baptist Church of Hurricane Creek Road is five nights of classes, crafts, meals, snacks and fun unlimited. This year’s edition was titled, “Arise, Shine; For Thy Light Is Come.”

The scriptures came to life through movie theater settings imposed upon five Old Testament accounts which capture elements of films of mystery, romance, comedy, action and music. The productions were: Mystery at the House of Dagon (I Samuel 5), Ruth and Boaz, A Love Story (Ruth 1-4), Donkey Don’t Lie (Numbers 22), The Giant Slayer (I Samuel 17), and The Leaping King (II Samuel 6).

Decorations and crafts also reflected the movie star theme. Crafts included making Hollywood style stepping stones. On Friday, participants wore white t-shirts and placed their paint-dipped hands on fellow participants who had “touched” them in some way during the 5-day school. At the closing presentation on Sunday, June 23, the children and teachers wore the t-shirts, showing that they had been touched and had touched others.

Teachers were: Nursery & Pre-K – Donna Stowers and Denise Edwards; K,1, 2 – Cheri Sowards and Debbie Loges; Grade 3, 4 & 5 – Robin Rogers and Tiffany Wickline; Teens – F. D. and LuAnn Searls; and Adult Class – Pastor Colton O’Brien, Dave Edwards, Ron Allen, and Rob Loges. Nikki Brewer and Kayla O’Brien were Director and Assistant Directors. Craft teachers were Robin & Rusty Withrow, Russell Withrow & Tiffany Kiwabonga, and Andrea Thomas.

The kitchen crew included Xylphia Beaver, Carla Cook, Heather Blackshire and Sherri Cross.

Prize tickets were awarded for best splashes.
