Community Calendar for Week of July 4

NOW – OCTOBER

  • The Putnam County Farmers Market will be held every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the field next to Exxon on Route 34, Teays Valley.
  • The Country Roads Farmers’ Market will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Valley Park in Hurricane.

WEDNESDAYS IN JULY

  • The First Baptist Church of Nitro, 2202 2nd Avenue, will be holding a free lunch every Wednesday in July from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

JULY 4

  • The 11th Annual July 4th 5K Run/Walk will start at 8 a.m. at the Buffalo Town Hall. Registration begins at 7:15 p.m. To pregister, call or text 304-546-0763.
  • The Town of Buffalo will be holding their Fourth of July Parade at 1 p.m. Music from 2 to 10 p.m. Fireworks at 10 p.m.
  • There will be a 4th of July Zumba class at 9:15 a.m. at Power Up Sports and Wellness, 3540 Teays Valley Road, Hurricane. The cost to attend is $8.
  • The City of Hurricane will be holding their I n d e p e n d e n c e D a y Celebration. Parade at 2 p.m. Fun events at City Park from 3 to 8 p.m. Fireworks at 10 p.m.

JULY 5

  • The Nitro Antique Car Club will be holding a cruise-in from 5 p.m. to dusk at 2nd Avenue, 21st Street, Nitro.

JULY 6

  • There will be an antique tractor pull at 1 p.m. at the West Virginia Farm Museum in Point Pleasant.
  • The Poca River Hunting, Fishing and Recreation Club will be holding an 80’s themed glow party from 7 p.m. to midnight at 786 Dupont Road, Poca. The cost is $6 per guest.
  • There will be a Raise the Woof Funraiser from noon to 4 p.m. at the Putnam County Animal Shelter, 12874 Charleston Road, Red House.
  • There will be a comic trade day from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at The Board Room, behind Walmart in Hurricane.

JULY 8 – 12

  • The Bridge Church, 279 Dairy Road, Poca, will be holding Vacation Bible School from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. each evening.

JULY 9 – 12

  • The Kanawha County 4-H Day Camp will be held at the West Sattes Community Center, 234 Lee Avenue, Nitro. For more information and to register, call 304-720-9889.

JULY 9

  • Zoology Zone will be at the Eleanor Park (behind the Eleanor Library) at 10 a.m.
  • There will be open interviews for Valley Health from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Area 34, 971 WV Route 34, Teays Valley.
  • There will be a trivia night from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. at VFW Post 9097, 3836 Teays Valley Road, Hurricane.
  • Community Autism Resources and Education Systems will be holding a summer meet-up for neurodiverse children and families from 10 a.m. to noon at Valley Park in Hurricane.

JULY 10

  • Express Employment Professionals will be holding a recruiting and hiring event from from noon to 4 p.m. at Area 34, 971 WV Route 34, Teays Valley.

JULY 11

  • Fitness Friday: There will be yoga at 10 a.m. at Moxie Fitness, 3981R Teays Valley Road, Scott Depot.

JULY 13

  • The Clinton-Cunningham-Shamblin Reunion will start at 11 a.m. at the Eleanor Park.
  • Horseshoe Heaven on Smith Farm, 121 Banjo Lane, Scott Depot, will be holding a Girls’ Day Out from 2 to 5 p.m. Spend time with the horses. The cost is $60. Call/Text 304-421-5733 to reserve a spot.
