Community Calendar for Week of July 18

NOW – OCTOBER

  • The Putnam County Farmers Market will be held every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the field next to Exxon on Route 34, Teays Valley.
  • The Country Roads Farmers’ Market will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Valley Park in Hurricane.

WEDNESDAYS IN JULY

  • The First Baptist Church of Nitro, 2202 2nd Avenue, will be holding a free lunch every Wednesday in July from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

JULY 18

  • The Nitro Public Library, 1700 Park Avenue, will be holding an adult craft class at 5:30 p.m. Registration is required; call 304-755-4432.
  • The Bridge Church, 279 Dairy Road, Poca, will be offering hot meals, food pantry boxes, and a clothing closet from 5 to 8 p.m.

  • Putnam CREW will be holding a Cheers meet-up for young professionals from 6 to 7 p.m. at Fireside Grille in Teays Valley.

JULY 19

  • Fitness Friday: There will be a nature walk at Amherst-Plymouth Wildlife Management Area at 10 a.m. The GPS is 6360 Charleston Rd, Red House, but you’ll land just outside of Bancroft on Rt. 62.
  • The Poca Library will be showing “Spirited Away” at 2 p.m.
  • Jungle Club Resort Cafe & Play, 11624 Winfield Road, Unit 4, will be holding a free children’s clothing swap from noon to 8 p.m.
  • There will be an American Red Cross Blood Drive from noon to 5 p.m. at Forrest Burdette United Methodist Church, Putnam Avenue, Hurricane. Call 1-800-733-2767, or visit redcrossblood.org and enter “hurricanecom” to schedule an appointment.

JULY 20

  • There will be a square dance from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Kanawha County 4-H Heritage Showcase, Camp Virgil Tate, 1400 Camp Virgil Tate Road, Charleston. No entry fee to participate.
  • The Inaugral Appalachian Truck Show will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Appalachian Truck & Trailer Services, 43 1st Avenue, Nitro.
  • MADFEST 4, Mental Health Awareness Day, will be held from noon to 9 p.m. at Ridenour Lake in Nitro. Live music, art and craft vendors, information vendors, food trucks and more.
  • The West Virginia Comics Buy, Sell and Trade Comic and Toy Show will be held at Social Event Space, 2833 Main Street, Hurricane, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • There will be a car show to support Hospice Care families from noon to 3 p.m. at the Putnam County Bank Parking Lot in Hurricane. $15 each vehicle or 2 for $25. For more information, call 304-444-9292.

  • Children can learn important map comprension skills and go on a treasure hunt at 10 a.m. at the Buffalo Library.
  • Children can make rain sticks with the WV DEP at 11 a.m. at the Eleanor Library.
  • The Putnam Aging Senior Picnic will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Valley Park in Hurricane. The theme is Christmas in July.
  • There will be a pool party for first responders at Waves of Fun in Hurricane from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.

JULY 26 – 28

  • Bancroft Mission will be hosting an evening of praise and thanksgiving at 7 p.m. at the Bancoft Community Park.
  • Jungle Club Resort Cafe & Play, 11624 Winfield Road, Unit 4, will be holdin ga Parents’ Night Out event for ages 4-10 from 5 to 8 p.m. Children can enjoy a movie and crafts while their parents go out. Tickets are $25.
  • There will be a foam dance party for ages 7-14 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Foam Garage, 2716 Putnam Avenue, Hurricane. The cost is $10 per child.

JULY 27

  • There will be a Tractor Parade and Show at the West Virginia Farm Museum in Point Plesant. Pedal pull at 10:30 a.m. Parade begins at noon.
  • Community Bridge at King’s River Church, 777 Mallory Lane N, St. Albans, will be holding a Back to School Bush from 2 to 4 p.m. for foster and adopted kids and families.

  • There will be a night party from 8:30 to 11 p.m. at the Eleanor Pool. The cost to attend is $5.
  • The Rustic Mechanicals – West Virginia’s Shakespeare Troupe – will be performing “The Tempest” at 7 p.m. at the big shelter at Valley Park, Hurricane.
