Community Calendar for Week of July 25

NOW – OCTOBER

  • The Putnam County Farmers Market will be held every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the field next to Exxon on Route 34, Teays Valley.
  • The Country Roads Farmers’ Market will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Valley Park in Hurricane.

NOW – JULY 27

  • The Jackson County Junior Fair will be held at the Jackson County Fairgrounds, 157 County Farm Road, Cottageville. For a schedule of events, go to https://www.jacksoncountyjrfair.org

  • Winfield Church of Christ, 2918 Winfield Road, will be holding Let Your Light Shine Vacation Bible School starting at 6 p.m. each evening.

NOW – JULY 26

  • Oma Church, 2116 Arbuckle Creek Road, Leon, will be holding Rock the Vote Vacation Bible School from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. each evening. All ages are welcome.
  • Teays Valley Church of the Nazarene, 3937 Teays Valley Road, Hurricane, will be holding Kaleidoscope Vacation Bible School from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. each night.
  • Hurricane First Church of the Nazarene, 372 US Route 60, will be holding SCUBA Vacation Bible School from 6 to 8:30 p.m. each evening.

JULY 25

  • Children can learn important map comprehension skills and go on a treasure hunt at 10 a.m. at the Buffalo Library.
  • Children can make rain sticks with the WV DEP at 11 a.m. at the Eleanor Library.
  • The Putnam Aging Senior Picnic will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Valley Park in Hurricane. The theme is Christmas in July.
  • There will be a pool party for first responders at Waves of Fun in Hurricane from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.

JULY 26 – 28

  • The Poca Library will be showing the film “Rear Window” at 2 p.m.
  • Bancroft Mission will be hosting an evening of praise and thanksgiving at 7 p.m. at the Bancoft Community Park.
  • Fitness Friday: Go bird watching at 10 a.m. at the bird sancutary in Eleanor, located near the locks and dam and Naitonal Guard Armory.
  • Jungle Club Resort Cafe & Play, 11624 Winfield Road, Unit 4, will be holding a Parents’ Night Out event for ages 4-10 from 5 to 8 p.m. Children can enjoy a movie and crafts while their parents go out. Tickets are $25.
  • There will be a foam dance party for ages 7-14 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Foam Garage, 2716 Putnam Avenue, Hurricane. The cost is $10 per child.

JULY 27

  • There will be a Tractor Parade and Show at the West Virginia Farm Museum in Point Plesant. Pedal pull at 10:30 a.m. Parade begins at noon.
  • Community Bridge at King’s River Church, 777 Mallory Lane N, St. Albans, will be holding a Back to School Bush from 2 to 4 p.m. for foster and adopted kids and families.

  • There will be a night party from 8:30 to 11 p.m. at the Eleanor Pool. The cost to attend is $5.
  • The Rustic Mechanicals – West Virginia’s Shakespeare Troupe – will be performing “The Tempest” at 7 p.m. at the big shelter at Valley Park, Hurricane.
  • There will be a foam dance party for ages 1-6 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Foam Garage, 2716 Putnam Avenue, Hurricane. The cost is $10 per child.
  • The Hurricane High School Show Choirs will be holding their annual yard sale and car wash fundraiser at the school from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Early bird admission is from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. and costs $5.

JULY 28

  • Pastor Jon Nelson of Buffalo Church of the Nazarene, 25053, will be discussing his recent tour of Israel at 6 p.m.
  • There will be a car show for HospiceCare from noon to 4 p.m. at the Putnam County Bank Parking Lot behind McDonalds in Hurricane.

JULY 29 – AUGUST 2

  • Bancroft Mission, 5936 Charleston Road, Bancroft, will be holding Camp Firelight Vacation Bible School from 6 to 8 p.m. Ages Pre-K through 5th grade.

  • The City of Nitro will be sponsoring a free drive-in movie starting at dusk at 1700 Park Avenue, Nitro. This week’s movie will be “Kung Fu Panda 4.”
  • Bake My Day, 14 Bank Street, Nitro, will be hosting a beginners’ crochet class from 1 to 3 p.m. To sign up, call (304) 651-2584.
  • John’s Cyclery Shop will be holding a bike ride on the new Ridenour Lake trails at 6 p.m. Ridenour Lake is located at 139 Ridenour Park S, Nitro.
  • Children can learn about cool vehicles such as fire trucks and school buses at 10 a.m. at the Poca Library.
  • The WV Blue Goose organization will be holding a bingo night at 6 p.m. at Social Event Space, 2833 Main Street, Hurricane.

  • Otter Branch Church, 2402 Eighteen Mile Creek Road, Buffalo, will be holding Scavenger Hunt Vacation Bible School from 6:30 to 8 p.m. nightly.
