MARY ‘KATIE’ BUSH
Mary Catherine Bush, best known as “Katie”, 82, of Liberty, passed away Thursday, July 18, 2024. She spent her last 10 years at Celebration Villa in Teays Valley where she received excellent care. Everyone will miss her cheerful smile but we take comfort in knowing that she is in Heaven with her mom and dad.
She was born on August 24, 1941, the only child of the late Carroll and Lottie Bush.
Katie is survived by her best friends, Walker and Gail Thompson and many cousins.
Funeral service was Monday, July 22, 2024 at Raynes Funeral Home, Eleanor, with Pastor Tim Valentine officiating. Burial was in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Given.

PATTY ROSE COOK
Patty Rose Cook, 95, of Eleanor, passed away Monday, July 15, 2024 at her home. She was a life-long homemaker, mother, and grandmother, and will be sadly missed by her family.
Born June 6, 1929 in Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Pierce E. and Nanny Jarrell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by her daughters, Sarah (John) Chamberlain of Irvine, California, Sue (Jim) Bradford of Tahoe, California, Bobbi Gallagher of Buffalo, Dorothy (Abdul) Elayan of Danville, Kentucky, and Cyndi Baker of Eleanor; 10 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren.
There are no services planned.

SARAH ‘SALLY’ HOLLIDAY
Sarah Jane “Sally” Fletcher Holliday, of Hurricane, died peacefully on July 18, 2024. Born September 7, 1935, Sally was the daughter of the late John Caroll and Elizabeth Fletcher.
Sally was a graduate of Charleston High School and West Virginia University, where she met the love of her life, Jim Holliday. She founded the Putnam County Parks Board in 1969 to build the Hurricane City Park and served as president of Putnam County Parks & Recreation for 38 years, guiding the development of 13 community parks. She was a founding member of St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church in the Valley, and she and Jim were the directors of Family Camp at Peterkin Camp & Conference Center for 50 years. She was a nature lover, an author, an artist, an involved member of the community, and above all else, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Betsy Rea, brothers Caroll and Mike Fletcher, husband Jim Holliday, and grandson, Cole Johnson. Sally is survived by her children, John (Diana), Betsy (Scott), Andy, Anne, and Mike, grandchildren, Meghan, Cade (Lauren), Chase, Cody (Jessica), Claire (Joe), Jim (Olivia), Logan (Kate), Ali (Chris), Aggie, Anna, Andrew, Ben, and John Michael, and great-grandchildren, Hayes, Hank, Helen, Fletcher, and Alistair, and many extended family members and friends.
Sally will be remembered for her enthusiasm for life and for the genuine kindness and love that she gave to everyone. She is so loved and will be greatly missed.
A service will be held at St. Timothy’s In-The-Valley Episcopal Church at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 with Rev. Andy Bird, Rev. Cheryl Winter, and Rev. Aaron Carr officiating. Internment of her ashes in the St. Timothys ‘Memorial Garden will follow the service.

DORIS FAE MCNEELY
Doris Fae McNeely, 79, of Hurricane, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 22, 2024.
She was born to the late Oscar Francis and Gyneth Mildred Landis on January 27, 1945, in Hampshire County.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Jerry McNeely; and her brother, Donald F. Landis.
Doris is survived by her daughter: Marsha (Scott) Myers; son: Glen F. Nida Jr.; grandchildren: Stevi (Eric) Pritt, Dakoda (Lindsay) Chattin, Tyler (Matt) Harman, Kelli (Luke) Yingling, Zoey (Cole) Morrison, Boston Myers, Jeremy Nida, and Kaden Ward; 16 great-grandchildren; several sisters in-law that she loved dearly; and her lifelong best friend, Gloria High.
Doris was a loving mother and grandmother, devoted wife and a loyal friend. She loved to help with her grandkids and great grandkids. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Funeral service for Doris was Thursday, July 25, 2024 at Chapman Funeral Home, Hurricane.

MICHAEL GLENN MEADOWS
Michael Glenn Meadows, 57, of Poca, passed away July 16, 2024, at home.
Mike is retired LPN from CAMC Memorial Division and a graduate of Poca High School. He loved spending time on the farm with all his animals, especially his dog, Buckeye.
He is preceded in death by his pop, Glenn Meadows and sisters Cathy Toler and Ruthie Meadows.
Mike is survived by his momma, Jewell H. Meadows; sister Cindy Meadows; niece Carrinda Meadows; best friends Casey Saunders, Eric Paxton, and Terry Hart; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.
At his request there will be no services.

JACKLYN ‘JACKIE’ OXLEY
Jackie Ann Oxley, 77, of Hurricane, passed away on Wednesday, July 17, 2024.
She was born on July 25, 1946, daughter of David and Anna Allen. She graduated from Hurricane High School in 1964. Jackie was a devoted wife and mother. She retired from Putnam County Schools where she was known as “Mom” to many students. She is fondly remembered for cooking and hosting Friday night gatherings for the entire football and basketball teams at Hurricane Middle School and Hurricane High School. Jackie was a member of the Hurricane Baptist Church, and also enjoyed outings with the Girls of 64. She spent her retirement years traveling and was able to accomplish her goal of visiting all fifty U.S. States with an Alaskan Cruise.
Jackie is survived by her husband of sixty years, Rodney D. Oxley of Hurricane, her son Dale Oxley and his wife Lesley of Charleston, her daughter Devin Oxley of Hurricane, her brother, Rodney Allen and his wife Diane of Huntington, her life long best friend, Susan Hayslett of Hurricane, several nieces and nephews, and her beloved dog, Scout.
Services were held at Allen Funeral Home on Saturday, July 20, 2024, with Rev. Jerry Losh officiating. Burial was in Sycamore Cemetery.

CAROLYN SUE PAULEY
Carolyn Sue Pauley, 85, of Scott Depot, went Home to be with the Lord on July 12, 2024 with her family by her side.
To her family and friends, Carolyn will be remembered as a model of faith, strength of spirit and God’s unconditional love. She married her Winfield High School Sweetheart, Bert Pauley in 1957 and together they created a loving home and raised two children. She was an excellent and engaged grandmother to the 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren that followed.
Quick witted and full of wisdom, she was fast to laugh with you and even faster at beating you at Scrabble. Carolyn was a great cook and shared her love through cooking and created a home that was always a comfortable gathering place. She served her community as Winfield Postmaster and through her volunteer work through church.
She is survived by her husband Bert Pauley; her daughter: Debbie (Bill) Gardner; son: Terry (Robin) Pauley; her grandchildren: Ashlee VanMeter, Philip Starnes, Kate Chyle, Alex Pauley and Hannah Pauley; as well as her great-grandchildren: Roxanna Pauley, Georgianna Nipper, Xaver Davis, Charles Nipper and Averi Powell.
Funeral service was Thursday July 18, 2024 at Chapman Funeral Home, Hurricane, with Rev. Dr. Melissa Pratt and Pastor Peggy Larck officiating. Burial was in Winfield Cemetery, Winfield.

DORIS JANE SAMPSON
Doris Jane Hayes Sampson, 82, of Hurricane, went home to be with the Lord on July 11, 2024. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. Her life was a testament to compassion, dedication, and a deep love for her family and community.
Born on October 4, 1941, in Elkview to the late James Albert Hayes and Lona G. Estep Hayes, she was the youngest and last remaining of 12 children. Siblings preceding her in death are Blanch Conway, Lorraine Gunn, Belva Paradis, Hubert Hayes, Thurman Hayes, Lula Mae Reichenbach, Luther Hayes, Anestine Brown, Velma Fitch, Arnold Hayes, and Rancil Hayes.
She embarked on a lifelong journey of caring for others. She began her career as a telephone switchboard operator, connecting people with warmth and efficiency. Later, she found her true calling as a registered nurse, where her gentle touch and unwavering commitment brought comfort to countless patients. She continued to spread her kindness through her work at Putnam Co. Aging, providing compassionate in-home care to those in need.
She was not only a caregiver by profession, but also by nature. She was an active member of the Teays Valley Church of the Nazarene where she cultivated deep, loving friendships. She found joy in nurturing her garden, where she lovingly tended to her plants and took delight in the beauty of nature. Her backyard was a sanctuary where she delighted in watching birds, squirrels, rabbits, and ducks, finding peace and tranquility in their presence.
Beyond her nurturing spirit, Doris was an adventurer at heart. She embraced travel with enthusiasm, always eager to explore new places and experience different cultures. She fulfilled her dream of visiting Jerusalem, and participating in a medical mission trip to Zambia. Her adventurous spirit inspired all who knew her.
Doris leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will be cherished by her family and friends forever. She is survived by her loving daughters: Lisa M. Ashworth (Ken) of Hurricane, and Jennifer A. Taylor (Aubrey) of Wheeling; sisters-in-law: Emma Hayes and Deb Hayes; grandchildren: Monique Taylor, Claire Ashworth, Jacob Ashworth, Jessica Ashworth, Briella Taylor, and Jada Taylor; great grandchildren: Carson Ashworth, Jackson Bess, Caroline Bailey, Nala Taylor and Noah Taylor; and numerous nieces and nephews. Special thanks for loving and caring nieces: Nancy Scott, Rondia Smith, and Donna Sue Statts.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, July 21, 2024 at Teays Valley Church of the Nazarene, Hurricane, with Pastor Sonny Williams officiating. Inurnment was in the Hayes family plot of Sand Run Cemetery, Elkview.

Margaret Smith
Mary Margaret Smith, 68, of Hurricane, went home to be with her heavenly Father on July 21st 2024. Margaret was a very special lady who cared for everyone and every living thing. She had all of us spoiled in her own way. With Margaret it didn’t matter how short or how long you stayed to visit, she always ended the visit with “love you guys”.
Margaret retired from Lincoln County Library where she worked as head Librarian for many years. While she was working, she started a literacy program to help people in the community learn to read and write resumes to obtain employment. In her free time, she enjoyed spending time with her family, crocheting, camping, and attending church. Margaret was a member of the Sycamore Baptist Church where she found new brothers and sisters in Christ.
Margaret was married to her best friend Ron, of 47 years. They spent their last 20 years together on the farm where they worked very hard to make it their own. This is where Margaret found her love for animals. She enjoyed her cows, chickens, horses and her puppy dog. All these animals will also miss her deeply.
She is preceded in death by her stepfather Charles (Pop) Persinger, brother John Bowery and brother-in-law John Smith.
Margaret is survived by her mother, Rose Persinger, loving husband Ron, sons Chip and Christopher, sister Betty Goff, brother Charlie Goff, granddaughter Abby, daughter-in-law Chelsea, and future grandson-in-law Caleb. Other close family members include Billy Smith, Michael Smith (Paula), Joel Smith (Dee), Shirley Davidson, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Service was Thursday, July 25, at Allen Funeral Home in Hurricane, with David Vickers officiating.

Beverly J. Stover
Beverly J. Stover, 68, of Red House, passed away on Thursday, July 18, 2024 at Hubbard Hospice House. She worked for several years at the TW Garner Food Company in Winston-Salem NC. She was a member of Hometown Independent Mission. Beverly enjoyed shopping and spending time with her nieces.
Born September 5, 1955, she was the daughter of the late Raymus D. Adkins and Gladys Marie Adkins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her late husband, Robert L. Barnett; sisters, Shirley Hall, Sue Willard, Mary McKneely and Rosa Casto; grandson, Jesse W. Freeman.
Beverly is survived by her loving husband, Thurman Stover; daughter, Lora L. (Oscar) Barneycastle of NC; son, Robert L. Barnett II of WV; grandchildren, Haylee Barneycastle of NC, Chase Letelier of VA, Robert L. Barnett III of WV and Bradley M. Payne of WV; great grandchildren, River, Lincoln, Riley, Piper, Lily and Oliver; sisters, Jackie Hedrick of FL and Linda (Benny) Davis of FL. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Funeral service was Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at Raynes Funeral Home, Eleanor, with Pastor Darren Persinger officiating. Burial was in Walker Chapel Cemetery, Robertsburg.

Albert A. Tinsley, Jr.
Albert A. Tinsley, Jr., 73, of Scott Depot, passed away July 16, 2024.
Albert retired from the State of West Virginia and is a graduate of Nitro High School. He is an Army Veteran and enjoyed traveling.
He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter, and two granddaughters.
Albert is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Reta Tinsley; two daughters; two sisters; one brother; and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
A tribute to the life of Albert A. Tinsley, Jr. will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 27, 2024 at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Pete Thompson.

Charles Paul Woods Jr.
Charles P. Woods Jr, 79, of Hurricane, entered the gates of Heaven on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at the Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston.
He was born October 14, 1944, in Washington, PA; a son of the late Charles P. Woods Sr. and Hazel (Kearns) Woods.
He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years: Peggy (Priddy) Woods; daughters: Kim (Mark) Hannan of St. Albans, Christi (Van) Taylor of Tega Cay, SC, and Lindsey (Jeremy) Lewis of Winfield; grandchildren: Kaitlyn Hannan of St. Albans, David (Katelyn) Hannan of Dorchester, MA; and Austin Charles Lewis, “Papa’s bestest buddy,” of Winfield; brothers: Donald (Lola) Woods of Barboursville, VA, and Daniel (Peggy) Woods of Washington, PA; and several nieces and nephews.
Charles retired from Meredian Automotive in Ionia, MI in September of 2010 after working there for 13 years as the Director of Human Resources.
He has been a member of Teays Valley Baptist Church for over 30 years, where he enjoyed serving as an usher, helping in the food pantry, and helping in the TVBC Awana Teens.
Funeral service for Charles was Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at Teays Valley Baptist Church with Pastor John Smith officiating. Burial was in Leon Cemetery, Leon.
