The West Virginia DOT conducted the first of four public meetings relating to widening the section of Teays Valley Road between Great Teays Boulevard and Apple Lane to three lanes on Tuesday, July 16.
The meeting held at Teays Valley Christian School served to inform the public concerning the status of the project and the schedule for future meetings and project timeline. The design of the project has not been finalized but initial studies have identified the need to address difficulties which motorists experience in turning into and out of side roads, the need to correct sharp curves near Erskine Lane and Frazier Way, and consider the inclusion of sidewalks and multi-modal accommodations.
Traffic studies reveal that during the last five-year period, there were 95 crashes in the project area, with 28% resulting in injuries. When compared to similar roadways across the state, the crash rate is nearly 2.5 times the State average. The study found that most vehicle accidents (35%) were rear -end crashes.
The next public meeting will be this fall, following the completion of environmental impact studies. The final project design will be presented at a meeting in late 2025 or early 2026. Construction is slated to begin in the spring of 2026.
