More than fifty vendors made their offerings to seniors known.
The annual Senior Picnic, sponsored by Putnam Aging and the City of Hurricane, saw 310 seniors chow down on a “Christmas in July” menu of ham with pineapple slices, ambrosia, broccoli salad, potato salad, cake pops, cheddar popcorn balls, and Grinch punch on Thursday, July 25, at the big shelter at Valley Park in Hurricane.
A number of seniors danced to the music of a pick up band. The field adjacent to the shelter was filled with tents of more than fifty vendors. Numerous senior service providers used the occasion to make their offerings known to attendees. Among the record number 53 vendors registering for the event were several first timers. Putnam Aging Director Jenni Sutherland stated that first vendors included organizations which specialize in services to grandparents who are tasked with caring for their grandchildren. “These are services which are helpful to an increasing number of seniors,” Sutherland said.
One first time vendor which captured an abundance of attention was the WV Gamefowl Breeders Association. The population of Putnam seniors includes a lot of chicken lovers.
