Community Calendar for Week of August 1

NOW – OCTOBER

  • The Putnam County Farmers Market will be held every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the field next to Exxon on Route 34, Teays Valley.
  • The Country Roads Farmers’ Market will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Valley Park in Hurricane.

NOW – AUGUST 2

  • Otter Branch Church, 2402 Eighteen Mile Creek Road, Buffalo, will be holding Scavenger Hunt Vacation Bible School from 6:30 to 8 p.m. nightly.

AUGUST 1

  • The Anthem Trio will be performing at 6 p.m. at Shenandoah Wesleyan Camp, 2200 Charleys Creek Road, Culloden.
  • County Sheriff Bobby Eggleton will be at the Teays Valley Church of God, 185 Connection Point, Scott Depot, at 6 p.m. to discuss identity theft and other topics. Phone 304-757-9222 to register.
  • A Novel Idea Book Club will meet at 5:30 p.m. at the Hurricane Branch Library.

AUGUST 2 – 4

  • The Bridge Chruch, 279 Dairy Road, Poca, will be holding their 40th Anniversary Camp Meeting at 7 p.m. each night with guest speaker Nik Walker.

  • The Nitro Antique Car Club will be holding a cruise-in from 5 p.m. to dusk at 2nd Avenue, 21st Street, Nitro.
  • SpeakEasy Singles will be holding a singles dinner at Diehl’s Restaurant in Nitro starting at 6 p.m. RSVP by calling 304-989-0710. Bowling at Town and Country Lanes afterwards.
  • The Poca Library will be showing the film “Jumanji” at 2 p.m.
  • The Putnam County Chamber of Commerce will be holding Business Before Business from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at Area 34, 971 State Route 34, Hurricane. RSVP by calling 304-757-6510.
  • A Novel Idea Book Club will meet at 1:30 p.m. at the Hurricane Branch Library.

AUGUST 3

  • The Taste of Nitro will be held from noon to 4 p.m. at the Nitro Living Memorial Park, 20th Street and 2nd Avenue, Nitro.
  • Bake My Day, 14 Bank Street, Nitro, will be holding a plant swap from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • There will be a Dance for Hope fundraiser for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Eleanor Volunteer Fire Department. This event is for children up to age 13 (must have adult present). The cost is $10.
  • The 5th Annual Putnam County Fair Horse Show will start at 1 p.m. at the Winfield Riding Club.
  • Sanctuary of Praise, 1920R Town & Country Estates, Culloden (behind Dollar General), will be holding a dedication of their Sunday school building at 6 p.m.
  • Sousana Freewill Baptist Church, Charleys Creek Road, Culloden, will be giving out backpacks filled with school supplies at noon.
  • The Master Gardeners will be discussing medicinal herbs at 10 a.m. at the Putnam County Main Library.

AUGUST 4

  • Lee’s Studio of Dance, 8325 Winfield Road, Winfield, will be holding an open house from 1 to 4 p.m.
  • The Rowseys will be performing at 6 p.m. at Valley View Free Will Baptist Church, 2634 Virginia Avenue, Hurricane.
