Community Calendar for Week of August 22

NOW – OCTOBER

  • The Putnam County Farmers Market will be held every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the field next to Exxon on Route 34, Teays Valley.
  • The Country Roads Farmers’ Market will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Valley Park in Hurricane.

AUGUST 22 – 24

AUGUST 22

  • The 2025 Putnam County Fair Board Meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at the Eleanor Volunteer Fire Department (entrance is in the back, up the ramp).
  • The Putnam Chamber of Commerce will be holding Business After Hours from 5 to 7 p.m. at The 1267 Rentals, 17588 Charleston Road, Buffalo.
  • Evergreen Hills Baptist Church, 435 Heavens Hill Drive, Culloden, will be holding a back to School Bash starting at 6:30 p.m.
  • There will be a teen/adult lyrical and jazz drop in class at the Macholah Ballet, 6422 Teays Valley Road, Scott Depot. The cost is $12 at the door.
  • Valley Park in Hurricane will be hosting a night market from 6 to 9 p.m. This month’s theme will be Western Night.

AUGUST 23 – 27

  • Lighthouse Baptist Church, 2440 US Route 60, Hurricane, will be holding a clothing giveaway. Hours are 3 to 7 p.m. on Aug. 23; 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Aug. 24; and 3 to 7 p.m. on Aug. 26 and 27.

AUGUST 23 – 24

  • There will be a Virtual Marksman – Target Practice at 6:30 p.m. at Hurricane VFW 9097 Canteen, 3836 Teays Valley Road, Hurricane.

AUGUST 23

  • Bailey Hardwoods, 10802 Winfield Road, Winfield, will be hosting a Loba-Wakol demonstration day starting at 10 a.m.

AUGUST 24

  • Maximum Velocity Wrestling presents Saturday Night at Nitro II starting at 6 p.m. at the West Sattes Community Center, 234 Lee Steet, Nitro. Admission is $15 for front row, $10 for general admission.
  • The Eleanor Pool will be holding a Back to School Splash from 8:30 to 11 p.m. Admission is $5.
  • The 2nd Annual George Washington Elementary School Music Vendor Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Eleanor Volunteer Fire Department, upper level.
  • The Bancroft Town Picnic will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Bancroft Community Park, 73 Jefferson Street.
  • The Putnam County Main Library in Teays Valley will be holding a propagating houseplants workshop at 10 a.m.
  • The Meeks Mountain Trails Hurricane 100K Course Preview and Group Training Run will start at 8 p.m. at the big red barn at Hurricane City Park. Preview the course for the Hurricane 10k and run with locals who know the trail.

  • Forrest Burdette United Methodist Church, Putnam Avenue, Hurricane, will be holding their third annual community cookout from 5 to 7 p.m.

  • Scott Honaker will be performing from 6 to 8 p.m. for Taco Night at Valley Cakes Cafe, 2887 Charleston Road, Poca.

AUGUST 28

  • Mike Owen Martin will be coming to the Cross Lanes United Methodist Church, 5320 Frontier Drive, Cross Lanes, for the Favorite Things harp concert at 6:45 p.m.
  • There will be Stand Up Paddleboard lessons from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Winfield Boat Ramp, 178 2nd Street, Winfield. The cost for a lesson is $29. To reserve, call or text 304-610-8999.
  • Express Employment Professionals will be holding a recruiting and hiring event from from noon to 4 p.m. at Area 34, 971 WV Route 34, Teays Valley.

  • Hurricane High School Football Alumni will be celerbating 100 years of football with a tailgate at 5 p.m. at the high school. Hurricane vs Huntington game time starts at 7 p.m.

AUGUST 31

  • The Chapman Reunion will start at noon at Shelter 2 at Hurricane City Park.
  • Scott Honaker will be performing at 8 p.m. at Hurricane VFW 9097 Canteen, 3836 Teays Valley Road, Hurricane.

SEPTEMBER 1

  • The St. Albans – Nitro Labor Day fireworks start at 9:30 p.m.
