Community Calendar for Week of September 5

NOW – OCTOBER

  • The Putnam County Farmers Market will be held every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the field next to Exxon on Route 34, Teays Valley.
  • The Country Roads Farmers’ Market will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Valley Park in Hurricane.

THURSDAYS
SEPTEMBER – NOVEMBER

  • Bringing Back the Village – Free seminars for seniors and their caregivers will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Thursdays at the Putnam County Main Library in Teays Valley.

SEPTEMBER 5

  • Putnam County Library Book Club Meetings: Buffalo Library at 5 p.m. and Hurricane Library at 5:30 p.m.
  • There will be a workshop on medications and poison safety at the Putnam County Main Library in Teays Valley at 5:30 p.m.
  • The Putnam County Republican Party will be holding a grand opening for their 2024 Election Headquarters at 109 Liberty Park Drive, Hurricane, at 6:00 p.m.
  • The Hurricane Woman’s Club will be holding their monthly meeting at 1 p.m. at Hurricane City Hall. Lunch will be provided; the cost is $15 per person.

SEPTEMBER 6 – 7

  • Boomtown Days will be held in Nitro at the Living Memorial Park. Friday will be from 5 to 8 p.m. and feature live music, beer truck, EV car show, and music. Saturday will feature a parade at 10 a.m., antique car show, vendors, and music. Festivities end at 6 p.m.

SEPTEMBER 6

  • The Putnam Chamber of Commerce will be holding a Business Before Business meetup from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at Poca Valley Bank, 12737 Winfield Road, Winfield.

  • There will be an antique tractor pull at 1 p.m. at the West Virginia Farm Museum, 1458 Fairground Road, Point Pleasant.
  • The Nitro Antique Car Club will be holding their annual car show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 2nd Avenue, 21st Street, Nitro.
  • Coffee With a Twist, 101 Main Avenue, Nitro, will be holding an open mic night and fall flavor debut from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.
  • SpeakEasy Singles will be holding a singles dinner at 5 p.m. at Diehl’s Restaurant in Nitro. Bowling after dinner. RSVP by calling 304-989-0710.
  • The City of Winfield is holding a monthly tire collection event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. beside Payne’s Produce.
  • Zoology Zone Science Center, located at Valley Park in Hurricane, will be celebrating their first anniversary from 10 a.m. to noon.
  • Mt. Zion Church, Jim Ridge Road, Given, will be holding a song and praise service at 6 p.m.
  • The Putnam County Main Library in Teays Valley will be holding a beginner beekeeping workshop at 10 a.m.
  • The Putnam County Main Library in Teays Valley will be showing the Paddington movie at 10 a.m.
    •There will be a membership meeting for the Girl Scouts from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Putnam County Main Library.

  • There will be an immersive nature hike with Andy McKee at 2 p.m. at Meeks Mountain Trails. Meet up at the Big Red Barn at Hurricane City Park.
  • The WV Cupcake Festival will be holding Gift Card Bingo at Valley Park Conference Center in Hurricane. Games begin at 5 p.m. – doors open at 3:30 p.m. Tickets are $35 at the door.   • The Huntington Bank – Special Olympics WV Golf Classic will start at 9 a.m. at Sleepy Hollow Golf Course in Hurricane.
