The James E. Marshall American Legion Post 187 leads the Putnam Homecoming Parade on Sunday, September 8th.
The Putnam County Homecoming began as a community ox roast in 1929 and quickly grew into a county-wide event featuring a Grand Parade followed by the selection of Miss Putnam County.
Recognition of the family member(s) which traveled the greatest distance to Winfield, the youngest in attendance, and the oldest present was (and continues to be) part of the festivity. The Grand Parade is a venue that always features the marching band of each school.
The Homecoming is a tradition built around pride in the county’s four high schools. Putnam may be alone in being home to the same four high schools for a full century.
The Putnam County Homecoming shouts out: “WE ARE PUTNAM COUNTY!”
