On Wednesday, October 9, the West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History (WVDACH) and the West Virginia America 250th Commission commemorated the 250th anniversary of the Battle of Point Pleasant with a lantern convoy that began at the Greenbrier County Courthouse at 8 a.m. and ended at 2:45 p.m. at Tu-Endi-Wei State Park in Point Pleasant. The lantern convoy made a twenty minute stop at the Putnam County Courthouse in Winfield as it retraced the steps of colonial troops in 1774.

While in Winfield, Secretary of Culture and History Randall Reid-Smith read a proclamation and presented a Ceremonial Lantern to Putnam County Commissioner Styeve Deweese.

The convoy also made stops at the courthouses of Summers, Raleigh, and Fayette, as well as the State Capitol building on its way to Point Pleasant. A Ceremonial Lantern and a certificate from the Governor and the West Virginia 250th Commission was presented to county officials at each stop.
