Veterans of the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps stepped forward as the WHS Band played the anthem of their military branch.
Sunday, November 3, was a time of recognition for veterans of every branch of the United States military at the courthouse parking lot in Winfield.
James E. Marshall American Legion Post 187 Winfield, the William B. Fulks Marine Corps League Detachment 1474 Hurricane, and the Winfield High School band teamed to make the day memorable for the veterans and their families in attendance.
Members of the Future Leaders Program posted the colors and Kate Wallace, senior drum major with the WHS band, sang the National Anthem.
The Winfield High Band played the Star Spangled Banner, Anchors Aweigh, the Marine Corps Hymn, the Army Goes Rolling Along, Wild Blue Yonder, Coast Guard Anthem – Semper Paratus, and the Space Force Anthem – Semper Supra.
County Commissioner Brian Ellis read a proclamation signed by Commissioners Andy Skidmore, Steve Deweese, and himself, and County Clerk Brian Wood declaring the week of November 3 to be Veterans’ Appreciation Week in Putnam County.

MCL Detachment 1474 conducted the 13-fold flag ceremony and Post 187 executed the three volley 21-Gun Salute.
Sgt. Major Ret. Brian Scott Combs delivered the keynote address. SGM Combs grew up in Putnam County and joined the service after high school.
Ceremonies concluded with the playing of Taps.
