The agenda for the Hurricane City Council meeting of November 4 included the discussion and possible decision to auction two lots of land which the city recently acquired.
After discussion, council voted to sell by on-line auction 3126 Virginia Avenue and 109 Caroline Circle to the highest bidder. As of Tuesday morning, November 12, govdeals.com had registered 23 bids on the Virginia Avenue property and 28 bids for the Caroline Circle property with respective high bids of $2,100.00 and $2,525.00. Bidding is slated to continue until 2:30 p.m. on December 3rd. The bid status may be viewed for the Virginia Avenue property at https://www.govdeals.com/preview-asset/49/19703. Police chief Mike Mullins reported that an October 21st traffic stop on I-64 conducted by Officer Matt Baumgardner resulted in arrest of a felon carrying a firearm and the seizure of 43 grams Fentanyl, 7 grams of Methamphetamine, 105 Benzodiazepine pills, and $3,804 in cash. Mullins said that the arrest led to a subsequent search of a Cross Lanes residence in which 1.5 pounds of Fentanyl, 171 grams of Methamphetamine, and 3 illegally owned firearms were seized.
Mullins stated that the HPD made 53 arrests during the month, 40 of which were charged to the State. The 13 City arrests included 7 for controlled substance possession, 4 for shoplifting, and 2 for public intoxication.
Marketing & Development Manager Amanda Ramey said the Haunted House at the old fire station on Main Street received glowing reports from horrified participants. City Manager Andy Skidmore stated that the Haunted House was equal to or better than events found in large cities such as Cincinnati.
In other business, council approved holiday supplemental pay for city employees.
The next city council meeting will be December 2nd at 6:30 p.m.
