ROGER HICKS
Roger Allen Hicks skidded across the finish line of life on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, in Lafayette, Louisiana. In true Roger fashion, he chose to go at the most inopportune time for everyone else. He liked things his way like that. While he may have come across the finish line tattered, battered, and bruised, he had the race of a lifetime.
Roger was a dog lover. He was not a cat enthusiast unless it was one of his grandcats. He was an avid deer hunter with a whopping 1 success story unless you include the countless days spent enjoying being surrounded by the woods. He loved to camp and shared a love of his favorite destination, Canaan Valley, WV, with his entire family.
Roger loved all things remote control, from a television or a good chair to his beloved RC cars, planes, and helicopters. He enjoyed a good car show or an RC show. Despite being a tool enthusiast, he did not like to use them much as tools should never be dirty. Those closest to him dubbed him Mr. Clean. If you were around when a cleaning fit struck, you might find yourself vacuuming under the refrigerator. He was a perfectionist who could tell you how to fix anything, though it might take about 6 months to complete. He would also gladly point out whatever he would have done differently if you fixed something yourself.
Roger was also a great collector. He collected storage totes because everything had to have its place. He collected jersey gloves, reading glasses, and hair brushes so that he was always prepared to get things done and look good doing it. Most importantly, he collected friends everywhere he went from Burdette Camping Center to WV Hobbies & Crafts to Townsend Specialties to Mi Pueblito and everywhere he ever worked.
Roger was a proud Air Force Veteran. He was a Minute Man Missile mechanic, leading an award-winning Strategic Air Command team. Roger was stationed at Grand Forks Air Force Base in Grand Forks, North Dakota, and Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, Illinois.
Most of all, Roger loved his family. Roger is preceded in death by his loving father Junior Lemon (JL) Hicks, the best in-laws a guy could ask for, Everett and Bernice Bird, and his faithful four-legged companions Angel, Prissy, Bailey, Britney, and Shelby.
Roger is survived by his loving wife Kathy who after 52 years of marriage deserves a medal; his mother Janet Hicks who prayed him through all the hard times; his amazing daughters Jennifer Danner, Crissy Seanze, and his favorite daughter Zoee; and his dedicated sons (in-law) David Danner and Billy Seanze. Roger fiercely loved battling, teasing, and supporting his grandchildren Jason “J Man” (Brooke) Craddock, Faith “Poopie” Craddock, Olivia “Tiny O” Danner, Ella “Ellie May” Danner, Lexi “Lexi Pro” Miller, and his new great-grandchildren Camryn Duncan and Deegan Craddock. Roger also leaves behind his brothers Howard (Debbie) and Gary (Vicki) along with his sister-in-law Sandy (Garry) Handley and brother-in-law Tim (Lynnda) Bird and many cherished nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Roger were Saturday, November 9, 2024 at Allen Funeral Home. Burial was Sunday, November 10, 2024 in Forest Memorial Park Mausoleum in Milton.
