Year 5 for Town of Bancroft Thanksgiving Day Parade

The Bancroft Thanksgiving Parade might be small, but it has heart.

Bancroft’s version of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade might be small in size, but there is nothing else like it in Putnam County. This annual event has brought holiday joy to Bancroft on Thanksgiving mornings for the past five years. The street parade originated during the COVID pandemic, a time in which social distancing practices prohibited large groups from gathering. All around the country, towns would hold street parades as a way of bringing cheer to residents during the lockdown. The Bancroft Thanksgiving Parade was both the first parade held in Bancroft and the first Thanksgiving parade held in Putnam County.

Local residents are encouraged to participate in the parade, either by walking or riding in the procession, or cheering them on as they pass. The parade starts at the Bancroft Ball Field and takes a circuitous route through the streets of the town before returning to its starting point.

The chilly weather this year discouraged some from participating in the parade, but it was still a fun and memorable event for those who bundled up for the occasion. Leading the procession was a Bancroft Fire Department engine; the fire department also entered an all-terrain vehicle into the parade. The Phillips family drove a festively decorated golf cart, and several walkers also participated.

The next event planned by the Town of Bancroft will be a special appearance of Santa Claus at the Bancroft Park on Saturday, December 7, from 6 to 8 p.m.
