Community Calendar for Week of January 2

SATURDAYS THROUGH FEBRUARY

  • There will be a free open gym for 1st – 5th graders every Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. at Zone Out Sports, located on Morris Court, just off Main Street in Hurricane.

JANUARY 3

  • There will be a board game night from 6 to 10 p.m. at Game Grove, located in Putnam Village Shopping Center in Teays Valley.
    Quantum Sports Center, 223 Commerce Drive, Hurricane, will be holding TOTS Fun Zones for children ages 1-6 every Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

JANUARY 4 – 5

  • The Hurricane Gun and Knife Show will be held at Valley Park Convention Center in Hurricane. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $7.

JANUARY 4

  • There will be a special surprise event at 1 p.m. at Game Grove, located in Putnam Village Shopping Center in Teays Valley.
  • The Putnam County Main Library in Teays Valley will be playing the children’s movie “Rio” at 10 a.m.

BEGINNING JANUARY 6

  • There will be a 5-week hand quilting and crochet class on Monday evenings from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Valley Park in Hurricane. The cost is $40. For more information, call (304) 562-0518.

  • Twisted Stitches meets at 10 a.m. at the Buffalo Library.
    Putnam County Library STEMuary Event: Children can learn about muscles in motion at 2 p.m. at the Putnam County Main Library in Teays Valley.
  • The Yarn Spinners will meet at 5 p.m. at the Putnam County Main Library in Teays Valley.

JANUARY 7

  • There will be a writers’ group at the Putnam County Main Library in Teays Valley from 5 to 6:45 p.m.
  • A chess club meets at the Hurricane Library at 3 p.m.

JANUARY 8

  • A chess club meets at the Putnam County Main Library in Teays Valley at 3 p.m.
  • Joseph Habedank’s 2025 autobiography Winter Tour will be coming to Teays Valley Church of the Nazarene, 3941 Teays Valley Road, Hurricane, at 6:30 p.m.

STARTING JANUARY 9

  • Tai Chi lessons will be offered at the Hometown Senior Center, 40 1st Avenue, Hometown, at 10 a.m. on Thursdays. Call 304-586-2745 to register.

JANUARY 9

  • The Federated Republican Women of the Valley will be honoring law enforcement from 2 to 4 p.m. at Gateway Christian Church Teays Valley, 118 Poplar Fork, Hurricane.

JANUARY 11

  • There will be an intermediate granny square crochet class from 1 to 2 p.m. at Bake My Day, 14 Bank Street, Nitro. The cost is $20 per person. Please bring crochet supplies. For more information and to register, call (304) 651-2584.
  • The Kanawha River Catfish Club will be holding their 2025 club meeting from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Eleanor Volunteer Fire Department.
  • There will be a food pantry from 9 a.m. to noon at the Winfield Nazarene Church, 10822 Winfield Road.
  • The Putnam County Main Library in Teays Valley will be playing the children’s movie “Surf’s Up” at 10 a.m.

  • There will be a Crush Run 5K Training Run and Trail Running Tips primer at 10 a.m. at Meeks Mountain Trails at Hurricane City Park. Meet up at the big red barn.

  • Hurricane High School’s Red Hot and Heat Wave Dinner Theater will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Friday; noon and 6:30 p.m. on Saturday; and 1 p.m. on Sunday.
