Making Christmas Mulch

The Recycling Center can process trees in a matter of seconds. Last year fewer than a dozen individuals took advantage of the Center’s Christmas tree disposal service.

The City of Hurricane Recycling Center, located at 3377 Teays Valley Road (across from the Hurricane High School Tennis Courts), is receiving Christmas trees and converting them into mulch. The Recycling Center will receive natural trees sans any decorations on Friday, January 3, and Saturday, January 4.

The Center is open Monday through Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (Closed from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. for lunch).

The City of Hurricane Recycling Center regularly accepts the following items: White Paper, Magazines, Newspaper, Cardboard, Used Motor Oil, Used Transmission Fluid, and Brush (8-inch maximum in diameter). Brush is only accepted on Fridays and Saturdays.

Gavin, City of Hurricane Street Department employee, is pictured making short order of a Christmas tree that was delivered to the Recycling Center on Saturday, December 28.
