BETTY JEAN CROWDER FELLURE
Betty Jean (Crowder) Fellure, 93, of Fraziers Bottom, was called to her Eternal Home on Monday, December 30, 2024.
She was born in Charleston on January 15, 1931 to the late Grace and Arnold Crowder. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hoy; sisters: Beverly Jane, Sharon, Ruthann and Mary Alice; and brothers: Maywood and Danny Crowder.
On June 15, 1946 she married Dallas Hoy Fellure Sr., her husband of 63 years. She was a member of Northridge Wesleyan Methodist Church, as well as Mt. Union Church. Betty worked at Kroger for many years where she made special connections with her customers who became life-long friends and later retired in 1993.
Betty was an extraordinary woman, whose talents in the kitchen and garden were only matched by her remarkable ability to love and nurture those around her. Her faith in the Lord Jesus and her devotion to her family were a beacon of hope and inspiration to everyone who knew her.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons: Hoy Jr. (Becky) and Steven (Katie); grandchildren: Melissa Kester (Teddy), Jennifer Kuhl (Roy), Stephanie Lunsford, Melanie Kelley (Kevin), Andrea Boggess (Paul), Karleigh Hale (Dean), and Marion Steven Fellure (Jill); great-grandchildren: TC Kester (Kirsten), Alexandra Barker (Noah), Nickolas Kester (Maria), Payton Lunsford, Roy Gene Kuhl III, Jacob Kelley, Dylan Kuhl, Madyson Lunsford, Nora Grace Boggess, Joshua and Kaleb Kelley, Anna Boggess, Lillyana Albertson, and Eleanor Fellure; great-great grandchildren: Theo Kester, Simon Kester, and Boone Barker; brothers: Edward Lee, Tommy Daniel, and Jeff Crowder; sisters: Cathy and Diann; as well as many special nieces and nephews.
A Tribute to Betty’s Life was held Saturday, January 4, 2025 at Mount Union Church, Pliny, with Pastor Mike Rader officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
DAVID GIBSON
David R Gibson, 71, of Hurricane, passed away at home suddenly January 1, 2025. He was retired from Putnam County Schools and Sun Bridge Nursing and Rehab.
He was a graduate of Hurricane High School Class of 1972 and was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church.
He is survived by his daughter Eryn Legg of Scott Depot and granddaughter Tori Legg. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins and a host of friends.
A memorial service will be set at a later date.
Jessica Ann Henderson
Jessica Ann Henderson, 42, of Poca, formerly of Hurricane, passed away Monday, December 30, 2024, in CAMC Memorial Division.
Jessica was a wonderful mother, daughter, and granddaughter. She is a 2001 graduate of Hurricane High School and attended Marshall University and Huntington Junior College and formerly attended Forest Burdette United Methodist Church.
She is preceded in death by her father James C. Henderson and grandparents Jim and Peggy Henderson and William Stanley.
She is survived by her daughter Aubree L. Jividen and her father Jeremy Jividen; mother Beverly Sovine; grandmother Carolyn Stanley; brother Logan Henderson; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
A tribute to the life of Jessica was held Monday, January 6, 2025, at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home Chapel.
BRIAN HILL
Brian L. Hill, 52, of Clarksville, Tennessee, formerly of Hurricane, West Virginia, passed away December 23, 2024 at home unexpectedly.
Brian was an excellent attorney specializing in bankruptcy. He took pride in his work and was well known for helping those in need.
Born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on June 21, 1972, he eventually moved to Hurricane and graduated from Hurricane High School. He went to West Virginia State University and then on to Appalachian School of Law. He was loved by many people including is family, friends, and clients and was a free and fun loving spirit and always ready to tell a joke. Brian loved life and always ready for an adventure. His love of scuba diving, he eventually became a master scuba diver. Recently he went to Oxford University in England with his father to attend a law seminar and enjoyed his side trip to Ireland.
Surviving are his wife, Nicole in Clarksville, Tennessee, his children, Aubrey Hill from New York City, and Logan Hill of Dunbar, West Virginia and his parents, mother Carol Cato of Raleigh, North Carolina, his father, David L. Hill and step-mother, Pamela Hill of Hurricane, West Virginia, his sister, Martha Hill also of Raleigh, North Carolina, step-brothers, Christopher and Nicholas Haddad, many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He is preceded by his brother, David L. Hill, Jr., paternal grandparents, Lawrence and Thelma Hill, and by his maternal grandparents, George and Barbara Cato.
A memorial service will be held at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, West Virginia on Friday, January 10, 2025 at 1:00 p.m.
Ray Russell Richardson
Ray Russell Richardson, 90 of Scott Depot, went to be with the Lord on January 3, 2025, at 6:15 pm.
Ray enlisted in the Air Force and eventually the Air Guard. He was employed by Bell & Howell, Chicago Il and later as the nighttime auditor for Red Roof Inn. He and his daughter Robin opened the franchise Merle Norman Cosmetics and ran it for 10 years. Ray loved his family, his country, God, people, trains, cars and photography. His ethics for working lead him to finally retire at 85.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 67 years, Gillian Marie McCoy Richardson and his youngest sister, Brenda Dotson.
Left to cherish his memories are his son Perry Richardson (Angie)— daughters, Heather (Ronnie) Summer (Chase) and son Joshua. His middle daughter Robin Marie Crede- Sons Zachary (Kristyn) and Patrick. His youngest daughter Rita Reynolds- sons, Shawn and Seth and daughter Sarah. 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Ray is leaving behind brothers- Kinlaw Richardson, Ronnie Richardson, Norman Richardson. Sisters- Elta Clay, Rosa Casey, Mary Sue Smith. The Richardson family is a big family of aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and cousins that might have been family but most importantly, they were each other’s friends. This thread in the fabric leaves a legacy of memories that continue to weave a beautiful covering for those continuing their journey.

Janet Rowsey
Janet Lynn Rowsey, 67, of Hurricane, went running through the gates of heaven on December 30, 2024 after a 30-year battle with Multiple Sclerosis. She was a friend to many and an inspiration to anyone who ever met her.
Jan was a 1975 graduate of Hurricane High School and graduated from Glenville State College in 1979 with degree in computer science.
She was a lifelong member of Forrest Burdette United Methodist Church in Hurricane.
She was employed by National Cash Register for a few years but spent the bulk of her career working for Fletcher Data Systems as a systems analyst where she designed business computer programs including one used by the West Virginia DMV for many years.
She was born on October 18, 1957, in Hurricane to Donald and Carol Sovine Rowsey and lived most of her life in Hurricane.
She was preceded in death by her father, grandparents; Virgil Rowsey and Hattie Rowsey and Howard Sovine and Thelma Sovine.
She is survived by her mother and caregiver Carol; sister, LaDonna Rowsey also of Hurricane and her brother, Howard Rowsey and his wife Sharon of Parkersburg, WV.; niece, Courtney Dyer and four great nephews; Greyson, Guy, Knox and Wesley as well as several cousins.
She was blessed to have had great and devoted friends; Tish and Rick Wallace, Kylene Dunlap Brown, Alan Bays and Marty Wingate who have gone above and beyond in helping to care for her over the years.
Funeral was Friday, January 3rd, at Forrest Burdette United Methodist Church in Hurricane. Burial was in Valley View Cemetery in Hurricane.
Lila ‘Ginger’ Sowards
Ginger Sowards, 68, of Tornado, passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2025, in Hubbard Hospice House after an extended illness. She was preceded in death by her parents Roy and Clara Sovine and her husband, Elmer Hank Sowards, four brothers and one sister. She is survived by her son Jesse Sowards and his wife Ashley of Tornado and Daughter Amy Sowards of Tornado, Two Grandchildren, Kortney and Tamira and several nieces and nephews and extended family.
Funeral service was Thursday, January 9, 2025 at Allen Funeral Home. Burial was in Kingrey Cemetery.
Doris G Wolfe
Doris G. Wolfe, 79, of Charleston, passed away Monday, December 30, 2024 at CAMC General. She was a 1963 graduate of Poca High School. She retired the U.S. Department of Labor Black Lung Program with over 23 years of service. Doris was a caregiver to many people over the years and will be remembered for her kind and loving spirit. She was a loving mother, grandmother and sister. She loved to travel and never hesitated to take the scenic route on trips. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing and crocheting.
Born December 22, 1945, in Liberty, she was the daughter of the late George and Mamie Null. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Lee Lewis, Carroll Jones and Raymond Wolfe; four brothers and one sister.
Survivors include her son, Eddie Lewis of Sissonville; daughter, Jeanie Miller of Center Point IA; son, Carroll Jones Jr. of Liberty; sister, Mildred Deweese; brother, William Null; sister, Luvada Counts; grandchildren, Jessica Lewis, Shawnda Lewis, Nikki Lewis, Brian Miller, Scott Miller, Dylan Jones and Hunter Jones; eight great grandchildren.
Funeral service was Friday, January 3, 2025 at Raynes Funeral Home, Eleanor, with Pastor Kevin Starcher officiating. Burial was in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Given.
Robert Womack
Robert Charles Womack, 77, of Hurricane, passed away December 31, 2024 after a long illness.
Robert retired from Putnam County Schools as an Electrician and was a member of Mount Salem United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents Amy Elizabeth and Charles Womack, Wife Janet Brightwell Womack.
He is survived by his daughters, Cheryl Roberts of Culloden, Carolyn Porter of Hurricane, Brothers, Wesley Womack, Leslie (Virginia) Womack all of Hurricane and Terry Womack of Milton, 5 Grandchildren and 9 Great Grandchildren.
Funeral Service was Saturday, January 4, 2025 at Allen Funeral Home with Rev. David Vickers officiating. Burial was in Valley View Memorial Park.
