PCS 2025 Science & Engineering Fair Winners Announced

PCS 2025 Science & Engineering Fair Results

January 16th was recognition day for Putnam County’s middle school students at the Division II Science & Engineering Fair (SEF) at Winfield Middle School. Middle school students entered projects in no fewer than twelve science and engineering classifications. Judges named “Champion” projects from Animal Science, Behavioral Science, Chemistry, Earth & Environmental Sciences, Engineering, Materials Science, Math & Data, Medical Sciences, Physics, Plant Science, and Technology entries. The winning projects will advance to compete in the Region III Science & Engineering Fair on February 11, 2025, at Coonskin Park Clubhouse in Charleston.

The list of participants, school, and projects follow:

Animal Science — Champion – Macie Dean, Emberlynn Rowh, Charlie Miller (Poca Middle School) for Music to My Cat’s Ears
Behavioral Science — Champion – Morgan Snodgrass, Declan Horn, Cohen Massie (Poca Middle School) for The Science of Where’s Waldo
Chemistry — Champion – Jessalyn Caruthers, Marley Sanders (Poca Middle School) for The Perfect Cookie
Earth & Environmental Sciences — Champion – Dima Malko, Howie Sample (Winfield Middle School) for Does Climate Change Ecosystems?
Engineering — Champion – Ryker Gladwell, Asher Knott (Winfield Middle School) for Fold and Fly
Runner-Up – Cruz Massey, Daniel O’Neal (Poca Middle School) for The Three Bridges
Materials Science — Champion – Khloe Snyder, Aubrey Dawson, Kynlee Dunlap (Poca Middle School) for Milk Magic
Math & Data — Champion – Malijah Davis, Luke Hill, Bryon Bradshaw (Poca Middle School) for Shark Bite
Medical Sciences — Champion – Jordyn Lemle, Dawson Sams, Landon Slater (Poca Middle School) for Color and Taste
Physics — Champion – Anderson Leftwich, Josh Tinney (Poca Middle School) for Knuckleball vs. Fastball
Plant Science — Champion – Vera Smart (Poca Middle School) for One Bad Apple
Technology — Champion – Ryleigh Fauber (Winfield Middle School) for Latent Fingerprints

Regional winners will advance to the 2025 West Virginia Science & Engineering Fair (WVSEF) for statewide competition on March 10, 2025, at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center.
