Celebrating 50th Anniversary of What Never Happened

A clipping from the Front Page of the January 31, 1975 issue of The Hurricane Breeze.

Today, the Breeze is celebrating that which did not happen fifty years ago.

On Friday, January 31, 1975, the Breeze announced the intent to immediately cease publishing the newspaper.

It did not happen because Bill Robinson, owner of The Putnam Democrat newspaper offered to print the Breeze on his press at a discounted price.

The Breeze did not miss an issue. On February 7, 1975, the front page of the paper announced the cancellation of the suspension.

In 1975, the Breeze was printed in Culloden on the same press as the Putnam Post and Putnam Democrat.

When the Post ceased to print its own paper, printing of the Breeze shifted to Valley Publications in Nitro.

When the Valley Press shutdown, printing the Breeze shifted to Wayne County. When the press at Wayne County News wore out, printing shifted to Parkersburg and then to Wheeling.

The Breeze is now printed in Charleston.
