Putnam County Schools hosted its annual Math Field Day for grades 6-8 at Winfield Middle on Tuesday, January 28. Every school was represented by a team of three from each grade. The top three individual winners in each grade advance to the regional competition at the Regional Math Field Day at the University of Charleston on February 25, 2025.
Math Field Day participants have math skills tested in four areas: mental math, estimation computation, physical estimation, and a written (math) exam.
Individual winners were:
6th Grade Winners — 1st Place: Morgan Snodgrass, Poca Middle; 2nd Place: Neo Nguyen, Winfield Middle; 3rd Place: Lucas Houdyschel, Hurricane Middle; Alternate: Ava Hendren, Winfield Middle
7th Grade Winners — 1st Place: Hunter Jones, Hurricane Middle; 2nd Place: Jace Berry, Winfield Middle; 3rd Place: Markus LeMasters, Hurricane Middle; Alternate: Riley Cook, George Washington Middle
8th Grade Winners — 1st Place: Blaise Liu, Hurricane Middle; 2nd Place: Cruz Berry, Winfield Middle; 3rd Place: Jackson Green, Hurricane Middle; Alternate: Will Samples, Hurricane Middle.
In addition to the individual winners who will advance, this year’s Math Field Day honored the highest scoring 3-member teams in each grade level. Team winner were — 1st Place: Hurricane Middle; 2nd Place: Winfield Middle; 3rd Place: Poca Middle
Physical Estimation Winner was Viggo Lopez, Teays Valley Christian
