Time Machine Failure Makes for VBS Fun

Pictured are the adult volunteers who survived time machine malfunctions at Bethel Baptist’s Vacation Bible School and mad scientist and VBS Director Nikki Brewer (right).

Vacation Bible School at Bethel Baptist Church of Hurricane Creek Road is five nights of classes, crafts, meals, snacks and fun unlimited. This year’s edition featured a time machine and was titled, “Timeless.”

The time machine malfunctioned and did not deliver adult volunteers to their intended destinations. While the machine made by a mad scientist failed, teachers successfully delivered five pictures from God’s word to illustrate “For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope” (Romans 15:4).

The lessons were: The Determined Spy — Caleb; The Courageous Judge — Deborah; The Upright King — Joash; The Faithful Servants — Aquila and Priscilla; and The Good Shepherd — Jesus.

The classes were Nursery; Pre-K; K,1, 2; Grades 3, 4 & 5; Teens; and Adult.

VBS was followed by Saturday afternoon fun with barbeque and burgers in the Activities Building and carnival games. Children closed the day by cooling off with a water battle royal during which hundreds of water balloons hit intended targets.

At a closing presentation on Sunday, June 22, the children and teachers presnted the crafts which they made and reviewed the five lessons.

Teachers were: Nursery – Robin Withrow and Raven Schoen; Pre-K – Donna Stowers and Katie Yates; K,1, 2 – Cheri Sowards and Debbie Loges; Grade 3, 4 & 5 – Robin Rogers and Kayla O’Brien; Teens – F. D. and LuAnn Searls; and Adult Class – Pastor Colton O’Brien, Dave Edwards, Ron Allen, and Rob Loges. Nikki Brewer was Director with Jason Brewer assisting. Craft teachers were Debbie Ripley, Sherry Graley, Brandon Yates, Russell Withrow and Tiffany Withrow.
