MONA FAYE BOOTH
Mona Faye Scott Booth, of Bancroft, passed away peacefully at Genesis Teays Valley Center on Saturday, April 19, 2026. She was a graduate of Poca High School. She was employed by the Diamond Department Store, Charleston; Bobbie Brooks Sewing Factory, Nitro; and Teays Valley Rehab in Teays Valley retiring after 21 years of service.
Mona was born October 6, 1939, in Liberty. She was the daughter of the late Ambrose and Violet Scott. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, John Booth Jr. as well as sisters; Norma Curry of Nitro, Madeline Dean of Liberty, Kathryn Adkins of North Carolina, Ruby Scott of Dunbar, and brothers; Opie Scott of Eleanor and Jimmy Scott of Liberty.
Survivors include her sons; John F. (Lisa) of Buffalo, Matthew L. (Melissa) of Bancroft; grandchildren, Tyler (Sarah) of Birmingham, AL, Justin (Hannah) of Bruceton Mills, Stephen of Bridgeport, Mariah of Hometown, Zachary (Andi Kees) of Bancroft; great grandchildren, Merritt (Mer Mer) Booth, Kensi Wyrick, and Graham Wyrick.
A graveside family service was heldn Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at Haven of Rest Memory Gardens, Red House, with Pastor Jaycob Phillips officiating.
ALMALEE FRENCH
Almalee Landrum French, 88, of Scott Depot, and formerly of St. Albans, passed away at her home on April 16, 2026.
She was born to the late Kenneth and Helen Brown Landrum on June 19, 1937. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Samuel C. French Jr.; and her sisters: Cecelia Jones, Janice Field and Carol Gatewood.
Almalee was retired from Kanawha County Board of Education, enjoyed adult coloring, playing solitaire and watching birds and squirrels.
She is survived by her loving children: Craig (Susie) French of Marysville, OH, Robin (Larry) Becher of Scott Depot, WV and Scott (Annamarie) French of Hurricane, WV; grandchildren: Tiffany Milligan, Stephen French, Corey Becher, Josh Becher, Logan French, and Avery French; great grandchildren: Reagan Fields, Olivia French, Sadie French, Rowan French, Abel French and Hudson Milligan; as well as many other family members and friends.
There will be a joint Celebration of Life Service for both Almalee and Samuel French on Friday, June 5, 2026, 2pm-4pm, at 63 Main Events on 63 Olde Main Plaza, St. Albans.
PATRICHA ANN GOODWIN
Patricha Goodwin, 80, of Poca, passed away on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at Hubbard Hospice House.
Patricha was a caring and giving woman who was loved by everyone who knew her. She found great joy in life’s simple pleasures, especially sitting on the front porch swing with her husband, Darrell, watching the hummingbirds. She had a special love for sunflowers and cherished her beloved dogs, Zoey and Jake.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell Lee Goodwin, and her son, Lonnie Bell.
She is survived by her children, Regina Bell and Bonita (Paul) Bradshaw; her stepchildren, Kitty (Jeff) Thomas, DJ (Heather) Goodwin, and Brandy (Jonathan) Presley; her grandchildren, Robert Bunch, Corey Bell, Kylie Good, and Ashley (Cody) Carver; her step-grandchildren, Brad (Tristan) Thomas, Destiny Goodwin, Hope (Elijah Skewes) Goodwin, Courtney Thomas, Shane (Maggie) Presley, Elijah Goodwin, and Isaiah Goodwin; her great-grandchildren, Rylie Smith, Laken Smith, Clint Good, Ellie Good, and Dutton Good; and her step great-grandchildren, Jordyn Thomas and Alister Skewes.
In keeping with her wishes, there will be no services.
DAVID EDWARD HARRISON
David Edward Harrison, 78, went home to the Lord on April 13, 2026 surrounded by his family.
Born in Red House, on June 7, 1947 to Henry and Helen Harrison. Married to his beloved, Barbara, he proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1967-1970. After his service, he and Barbara started their family, having two sons, Eric and Aaron. Most of his career was served at Monsanto/Flexsys.
David was defined by his faith in his Lord Jesus Christ and dedicated his life to furthering the gospel and the church. He faithfully served for over 40 years in various roles at Paradise Bible Church such as elder, deacon, and Sunday School teacher. Additionally, he served as a teacher every summer at Upward Way Youth Camp. His passion was for church missions and served for over 25 years as overseer of the church’s missions program. He continued studying his Bible every day until he was no longer physically able.
David also found tremendous joy in his family. He spent hours watching his son’s basketball games or taking his granddaughters on day trips through the mountains of West Virginia. He was happiest when surrounded by his family in his home. He is survived by his wife of over 57 years, Barbara (Honaker) Harrison. Sons, Eric (Sarah) Harrison of Red House, Aaron (Christi) Harrison of Franklin, Ohio. Grandchildren, Rylie (Evan) Fine of Bridgman, Michigan, Lindsay Harrison of Red House, Delanie (Matt) Wheeler of Franklin, Ohio, Genna Harrison of Red Harrison, Cassidie Harrison of Franklin, Ohio, and Baylie Harrison of Franklin, Ohio, and four great-grandchildren. Brothers, Larry (Cindy) Harrison of Warsaw, Virginia, Dan (Karen) Harrison of Red House, West Virginia, and Tony (Sandi) Moles, of Nitro, West Virginia.
A tribute to the life of David was held Friday, April 17, 2026, at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home Chapel with Pastors Doug McComas and Paul Browning officiating. Entombment with military honors was in Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens, Red House.
JAMES ROGERS, JR.
James “Jim” Rogers Jr., 63, of Hurricane, passed away suddenly on April 13, 2026.
Born on March 24, 1963, Jim was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, easygoing nature, and deep love for his family. Jim proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Army. Following his service, he built a successful career as an Area Manager for Consumer Brands, earning the respect of colleagues for his dedication and leadership.
Jim found his greatest joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved camping in Hinton, fishing, bowling, and watching golf. A loyal Kansas City Chiefs fan, he rarely missed a game. Above all, Jim cherished time spent with family and friends, creating lasting memories with those he loved most.
He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Anita Rogers; his daughter, Krista Grimm (Zach); his son, Matt Rogers (Kimberly); his mother, Judy Rogers; his brothers, Joel Rogers (Leeann) and Jonathan Rogers (Theresa); and his beloved grandchildren, Aiden, Lydia, and his newest grandson, Jace. He was preceded in death by his father, James Rogers Sr., his favorite fishing companion.
Jim’s steady spirit, kind heart, and love for life will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
In keeping with his wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, April 25th, from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Ridenour Park Pavilion in Nitro,. Family and friends are invited to bring their fishing poles and spend time together honoring Jim in the way he loved most.
KENNETH EARL SYBERT
Kenneth Earl Sybert, 71, of Buffalo, formerly of Kittanning, Pennsylvania, passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at Glasgow Health & Rehab following a long illness. He loved to spend time in the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Growing up in Pennsylvania, he often fished the Allegheny River. Kenneth had made many fond friendships during his years spent in Buffalo, and will be sadly missed.
Born June 26, 1954, he was the son of the late Samuel A. Sybert and Gladys S. Boarts Sybert. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Samuel Ralph Sybert, and James Edward Sybert; and a niece, Tina Louise Sybert.
Survivors include his sister, Sara Henson of Buffalo; his brother, Charles William Sybert of Pennsylvania; a sister-in-law, Bernice Sybert; a cousin, Mary Ann Swarmer of Pennsylvania; and nephews, George Samuel Henson, and Steven Wade Henson, both of Buffalo.
In accordance with his wishes, his body was cremated. There are no services planned for the public at this time.
Cheryle Wilson
Cheryle Wilson, age 76, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, April 13, 2026, surrounded by her loving husband and children.
Cheryle is survived by her devoted husband of 16 years, David, the love of her life, who cared for her with unwavering compassion day in and day out. She is also survived by her beloved son, Ryan Stuart and his wife Corinne of Morgantown, West Virginia; her cherished daughter, Lorrie Zappitelli and her husband Jim; and her six treasured grandchildren, Karlee Lincoln, Camie, Sofie, Eliza, and Charlotte, who were the joy of her life.
Cheryle lived a life rooted in love, compassion, and service to others. She dedicated her career to healthcare in its many forms, touching countless lives through her work. Her giving spirit extended beyond her profession as she generously volunteered her time as a hospice nurse, offering comfort and dignity to those in need.
She had a deep love for life’s simple and beautiful moments. Cheryle was an avid reader, a passionate gardener who found peace and happiness in her yard, and an enthusiastic traveler who explored and experienced places across the world. Above all, she loved her family fiercely and wholeheartedly—her “people” meant everything to her.
Cheryle will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her warmth, strength, and boundless love.
A gathering of family and friends was held on Wednesday, April 22nd, at Allen Funeral Home in Hurricane.
