MARCELAIN CALL
Marcelain Sullivan Call, 95, of Hurricane, passed away on Sunday, May 10, 2026 in the loving care of Magnolia Assisted Living.
A lifelong resident, born on Peach Ridge, a graduate of Hurricane High School Class of 1947 and member of the First Baptist Church of Hurricane, Marcelain was a respected and well known in her hometown.
She leaves behind her daughters, Barbara (Paul) Welch of Phoenix, AZ, Beth Jeffers of Jackson, OH; her grandchildren Bryan (Kendl) Welch of Knoxville, TN, Kelsey (Mike Monaghan) Welch of Phoenix, AZ; her great-grandchildren Caison and Kinley Monaghan of Phoenix AZ; sister Sherlain Schmidt of Georgetown, TX; many nieces, nephews and friends.
Marcelain loved her family and community, she showed this in her daily life as a homemaker, school and church volunteer, seamstress, and many years working for Henderson Insurance.
Visitation was Thursday, May 14, 2026 at Allen Funeral Home, with a graveside service following at Valley View Memorial Park with Jerry Losh officiating.

LEWIS DAY
Lewis “Buck” Benson Day, 40, of Hurricane, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2026 following a long and courageously fought illness. Born on December 10, 1985, Buck was a lifelong resident of Hurricane. He was a man of immense strength- both in body and character. Buck spent much of his life working alongside his family dedicating his time, work ethic, and hard labor to help run the family business. To know Buck was a to know a man who lived for others. He was the definition of noble: If anyone was ever in need, Buck was the first to answer the call, showing up with a willing spirit, a strong back and a genuinely good heart. When he wasn’t helping others or working, he could often be found focusing on his passion for strength training, whipping up a meal in the kitchen of relaxing watching his favorite show shameless.
Above all else Buck’s absolute favorite place to be, simply surrounded by his family. Buck is preceded in death by his beloved son, Gunner Day, with whom he is now peacefully reunited with. His memory and legacy of kindness will be forever cherished by his loving parents, Ben and Shirley Day, his sisters, Mary Underwood of Tennessee and Wendi Day of WV. Nieces Kyleigh Day and Emile Jobe of WV. As well as the extended family and friends who will miss his protective presence and giant heart every day.
A celebration of life will be held for family and friends on Saturday, June 13, 2026.

ROBERT KREBS
Robert C. Krebs, 89, of Hurricane, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, after a short illness.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mona Krebs, and by his parents, Valentine and Velva Krebs.
Robert was a faithful member of Hurricane First Baptist Church, a graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School, Class of 1954, and a retired electrician from Carbide Chemical Plant. He enjoyed bowling, golf, and, most of all, spending time with his family.
He is survived by his daughters, Beverly Bowles and Diana (Mark) Lovejoy; five grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 22, 2026, at Allen Funeral Home, with Elder Aaron Hanna officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Vernon Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.

CHARLES LANDERS
Charles Lynn Landers, 63, of Bancroft, passed away Saturday, May 16, 2026, in CAMC General Division.
He was a graduate of Poca High School and was a retired truck driver. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Evelyn Sigman; and his sister, Anita Sigman Moses.
Left to cherish his memory are his three children, Charlotte Lacy, Jennifer Eren, and Nichole Parson; sisters, Jan Sigman and Amy Stacy; brother, Michael Sigman; 11 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home Chapel.
He will be laid to rest in the green burial section of Haven of Rest Memory Gardens, Red House.

JACQUELYN PAYNE
Jacquelyn Ann “Jackie” Payne, 79, of Bancroft, passed away on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 10, 2026.
Jackie was a 1964 graduate of Poca High School where she was crowned Miss Poca Dot and excelled as an athlete. She retired as an aide with Putnam County Schools after many years of dedicated service.
Jackie loved swimming and spent countless hours in the pool exercising and enjoying time with friends. She had a deep passion for animals and a compassionate heart for anyone in need. Always rooting for the underdog, Jackie never hesitated to lend a helping hand to those who had little. She also took great pride in helping build Bancroft City Park and supporting her community.
Above all, Jackie treasured her family. Her grandchildren were her world, and she loved cheering them on at their sporting events and celebrating their accomplishments.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Rebecca Wick; sisters, Janice Cullifer and Donna Smith; and son-in-law, Brian Frampton.
Jackie is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Brent Payne; children, Brent “Bub” (Sherry) Payne, Becky Frampton, and Lesley Payne; brother, Bill Wick; and her beloved grandchildren, Lyndsie Payne, Nathaniel Frampton, Jake (Sydney) Payne, Noah (Shelby) Frampton, Luke (Reagan) Frampton, Ethan (Kenzie) Payne, and Toby Payne. She was also blessed with four great-granddaughters, Kooper, Blair, Gwennie, and Kollins.
At Jackie’s request, there will be no services.

BETHANY N. RICKARD
Bethany Nicole Rickard, 43, of Buffalo, passed away Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at St. Mary’s Medical Center following a short illness. She was a 2000 graduate of Pt. Pleasant High School and worked as a caregiver for many years. She will always be remembered for her kindness and caring spirit. Bethany enjoyed nature, going on walks, gardening and her love for animals. Her greatest joy was her family and spending every moment possible with them.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Franklin “Petey” Harris and her grandfather, Donal Shaffer.
Born July 26, 1982, in Pt. Pleasant, she was the daughter of Daniel Rickard and Dawnetta Shaffer Rickard of Robertsburg. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her loving daughter, Caitlyn Harris (Damion Saunders) of Buffalo; sister, Danelle (Rusty) Wandling of Pt. Pleasant; grandmothers, Daisy Williams and Betty Rickard; nephews, Lexington and Luke. Bethany is also survived by her beloved dog, Buster.
In accordance with her wishes cremation will take place and there will be no formal services at this time.

LEWIS EARL SAYRE
Lewis Earl Sayre, 77, of Henderson, passed away Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at Arbors of Gallipolis. He was a graduate of Buffalo High School and a United States Marine veteran. He retired from Akzo Nobel Chemical. Lewis was a member of the American Legion and an avid drag racer. He enjoyed spending time outdoors fishing.
Born April 7, 1949 he was the son of Hannah Jane Grimm Sayre of Grimms Landing and the late Earl Sayre. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death his wife, Claudette Sayre.
In addition to his mother he is survived by his sons, Matt Sayre of Pt. Pleasant and Mike (Tiffany) Sayre of Belpre OH; brother, Osler (Rose) Sayre of Grimms Landing; granddaughter, Skylar Sayre.
In accordance with his wishes there will be no formal services. Private burial will take place in Haven of Rest Memory Gardens, Red House.
