Bruce McGrew Named Superintendent of Schools

The Putnam County Board of Education voted unanimously during a special meeting on Wednesday, May 27, to approve Bruce McGrew as the county’s next superintendent. McGrew is currently Assistant Superintendent for Administrative Services of Putnam County Schools. His contract as Superintendent extends from July 1,2026 to June 30, 2030.

McGrew has 34 years employment with Putnam County Schools and is a graduate of Poca High School. He has been a head football coach, athletic director and principal before moving into the central office. During his employment, Putnam schools have risen academically to become among the tops in the State.

Board president Chuck Hatfield said that the board was fortunate to have someone of McGrew’s caliber and experience in Putnam County.

Under McGrew’s leadership, the county is positioned to move forward with the construction of the new Hurricane Middle School and the upgrades to athletic facilities made possible by the recent school bond passage without missing a beat.
