MICHAEL R. ARTHUR
Michael R. Arthur, 81, of Eleanor, passed away Saturday, May 30, 206, at Thomas Memorial Hospital. He was a 1964 graduate of Buffalo High School and was a Christian. He worked at AC&F for over twenty years and retired from the West Virginia Turnpike Authority. Mike loved to spend time outdoors hunting and fishing. He always enjoyed family trips to Gatlinburg and the Amish country. He was a kind, loving and caring person and will be greatly missed.
He was the son of the late Jerome “Bunny” Arthur and Garnett Goff Arthur.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Nancy Arthur; daughter, Pamela Arthur of Eleanor; sister, Carolyn (Don) Casto of Buffalo; brother, Roger (Jeane) Arthur of Midway; sister, Donna (Gary) Craig of Buffalo; brother-in-law, David (Sherry) Fewell of Buffalo. Mike is also survived by a special son, Landon Bailes, several nieces, nephews, cousins, extend family and many friends.
A private service will be held at Raynes Funeral Home, Eleanor. Burial will follow in Beech Grove Cemetery, Eleanor.
CLYDE EUGENE CASTO
Clyde Eugene “Gene” Casto, 83, of Eleanor, passed away Thursday, May 28, 2026 at his home. He worked for many years as a concrete finisher and was a member of the Cement Finishers Union #109. He was a Christian and attended Grandview Baptist Church.
Born July 18, 1942 in Putnam County, he was the son of the late Clyde Casto and Icie Painter Casto. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Rockford Casto, Carroll Casto, James Casto, Tom Casto and Bill Casto; sisters: Williadean Boggess and Patsy Smith.
Survivors include his loving companion, Teresa Rollins; sons, Robert Casto and Rodney Casto; daughter, Kimberly Frampton; sisters, Betty Brown and Brenda King. Gene is also survived by grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Funeral service was Wednesday, June 3, 2026 at Raynes Funeral Home, Eleanor, with Pastor Woody Willard officiating. Burial was in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Given.
DOROTHY E. CRAIG
Dorothy E. Craig, 88, of Grimms Landing, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, May 26, 2026 at her home surrounded by her family. She was a faithful Christian who loved Jesus very much, and a life-long member of Oma Chapel Church. She enjoyed singing and playing guitar, and sang at many area churches. Her dear life-long friend Carolyn Coleman was singing at her side for so many of those services. Dorothy also helped comfort others by singing for countless funeral services over the years. She was a wonderful wife and mother, who loved her family and will be sadly missed.
Born September 3, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Clinton E. and Edith Mae Tucker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 69 years, Everette “Sambo” Craig; infant siblings, Violet, Pat, and Jerry Tucker; and Clinton “Tippy” Tucker.
Survivors include her daughter, Jada (Mike) Tucker of Grimms Landing; cousins, Reba and Darrell King, Joy Thaxton, and Faye Workman, along with her grandson, Daniel Caldwell; as well as extended family, church family, and many friends.
Funeral service was Friday, May 29, 2026 at Oma Chapel Church, Arbuckle Creek Road, Grimms Landing, with Pastor Larry Mobley and Pastor Randy Parsons officiating. Burial was in Craig Cemetery, Grimms Landing.
RHONDA LYNN LEGG
Rhonda Lynn Legg, 71, of Black Betsy, went to be with the Lord, peacefully on Saturday, May 30, 2026.
She was born on February 20, 1955, to the late Thomas “Sonny” McAllister and Mona Brown. She was a graduate of St. Albans High School in 1973.
Rhonda was a devoted Christian, wife, mother, mama, and friend. Remembered for her infectious laughter and bright smile, she was a constant source of joy and positivity for her family and friends. Her life was a testament to enduring faith; no matter the hardships she encountered, she trusted completely in the Lord. Her family finds comfort knowing that she now walks with Her Savior Jesus Christ.
In addition to her parents, Rhonda was preceded in death by her brother, Todd McAllister.
Rhonda will be lovingly remembered by her husband Barry; son Eric (Amanda) and daughter Renee; her beloved grandchildren, Madison Smith (Evan) and Tanner Legg; her great grandson Nash Smith; her sister, Kim Schultz (Jeff); and her stepmother Toby Parsons (Charlie).
A tribute to the life of Rhonda was held Monday, June 1, 2026, at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor James Legg officiating. Burial was in Haven of Rest Memory Gardens, Red House.
MARY LEE SPENCER
Mary Lee Spencer, 76, of Hurricane, passed away on May 23, 2026.
She was born to the late Joseph Ward and Laura Belle Combs on December 8, 1949 in Charleston. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her daughter, Melinda Herdman; and brother, Joe Combs Jr.
Mary is survived by the love of her life, her best friend, companion, and husband of 50 years, John Spencer Jr.; children: Tammy Davis and J.T. Spencer (Angela) both of Hurricane, Austin Hedrick (Brianna) of Smithfield, OH, and Angela Crouch (Howard) of Dunbar,; sister, Laura Jo Rodeheaver (Marshall) of Cross Lanes; brother, Steve Combs (Tracy) of Cross Lanes; her loving fur-baby, Sophie; as well as a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, extended family and friends.
Funeral service for Mary was Friday, May 29, 2026 at Chapman Funeral Home, Hurricane, with Rev. Dr. John Smith officiating. Burial was in Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery.
Paul Monroe Taylor, II
Paul Monroe Taylor, II, of Hurricane, formerly of St. Albans, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at his home.
He was the only child of the late Paul M. Taylor and Inez J. Miles Taylor. Married to the late Sherry Ann Taylor.
Paul was a football player and graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School, class of 1964. Graduate of West Virginia State College.
He served as a Tech Sargent in Civil Engineering flight with Air National Guard with 15 years of service.
He enjoyed drag racing, Nascar Races, holiday football games on television with family, going to Esquire dances with Sherry and meeting up with friends. Going on family vacations to Pigeon Forge and Myrtle Beach, SC.
Many of the kids’ friends and neighbors knew him for his famous late night lawn mowing, often jokingly referred to as his “moonlight mowing”.
He also loved his milkshakes and sweet but mainly Reece Cups.
He served as an assistant coach for the Black Knights Little League during the time his son played football. A member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church, St. Albans, was a boy scout growing up.
He is retired from SKF USA Inc. after 39 years. Also worked for GE Ray Construction Company and Evans Supermarket.
He is survived by his son, Eric Taylor (Betsy Ayers) of Barboursville and daughter, Destiny Taylor of Scott Depot; grandchildren, Christopher Drew Taylor (Ashley), Olivia Taylor, Griffin Taylor, Sophia Taylor, Taylor Miles (Ashley), Madison Ayers Byers (Austin), Bryar Ayers; great grandchildren, Aria, Hudson, Lennox, Brody, Ivy, Everleigh, Gage and Avery.
Funeral service was Sunday, May 31, 2026 at Bartlett-Nichols Funeral Home, St. Albans. Burial was in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.
SHEILA JEAN WHITEFORD
Sheila Jean Voorhees Whiteford, 66, of Culloden, and formerly of Springfield, OH, passed away on May 28, 2026 at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington.
She was born on February 4, 1960 to the late Harold A. and Marjorie L. Anstine Voorhees in Springfield, OH.
Sheila was a graduate of Springfield South High School and attended Mt. Vernon Nazarene University and Clark State College. She was formerly employed by Springfield Public Library and their Book Mobile as well as Kidzlink Daycare at Memorial Hospital and Honda in Marysville, OH. Her home church was at Springfield’s High Street Church of the Nazarene, and once married she was alongside Paul as he pastored churches in Marysville, OH, IN, CA and together their current assignment church at Hurricane First Church of the Nazarene in Hurricane.
Sheila is survived by her husband of 35 years, Rev. Paul Anthony Whiteford; son, Paul Anthony Whiteford Jr.; daughters: Emily (Tyler) Hahn of Milton, and Hannah Whiteford of San Diego, CA; grandchildren: Alaina Love and Paisley Hahn of Milton; sister, Carolyn (Rev. David) Glauner of Washington Courthouse, OH; and brothers: Dene (Rhonda) Voorhees, Harold Voorhees, and James (Wendy) Voorhees all of Springfield, OH; as well as other family members and friends.
Funeral service for Sheila was Wednesday June 3, 2026, at Hurricane First Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Brett Layton and Rev. Scott Buell officiating. Burial was in Ferncliff Cemetery in Springfield, OH.
