Community Calendar for Week of June 11

  • The Hurricane Fire Department Carnival will be held at Hurricane High School.

NOW – JUNE 12

  • Sycamore Missionary Baptist Church, Sycamore Road, Hurricane, will be hosting Wonder Vacation Bible School from 6:30 to 8 p.m. nightly. Classes for all ages.

JUNE 12-14; JUNE 19-21

  • The WV Baby Animal Festival will be held at the Old School Christmas Farm, 148 Northview Lane, Red House. Admission is $10 per person and tickets are on sale now at oldschoolchristmas.com

JUNE 12

  • There will be free bingo at 6 p.m. at Coffee With A Twist, 101 Main Avenue, Nitro.
  • There will be a nature walk and creek wading adventure at Amherest Plymouth Wildlife Management Area starting at 10 a.m. Meet up at the entrance on Route 62 outside of Bancroft.
  • Putnam County resident Kevin Adkins will be discussing a fossilized ground sloth skull he found at 11 a.m. at the Eleanor Library.
  • Certified Public Accountant Kathy Rittenhouse will be discussing the changes coming to QuickBooks online payroll at Area 34, 971 State Route 34, Teays Valley. Come between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to ask questions.

JUNE 13

  • The Nitro Mini-Con Comics and Collectibles Show will be held at the Nitro High School Commons area from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • There will be a pickleball tournament from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Nitro Athletic Complex, 1650 Park Avenue, Nitro. The entry fee is $20 per person. For more information, go to johnfowler.org/pickleball and click on Pickleball Tournament Registration.
  • The Poca Townwide Yard Sale will be held throughout Poca.
  • The Poca cheerleaders will be holding a yard sale from 7 a.m. to noon at the Poca High School auxiliary gym. The Goodwill trailer will also be present for donations.
  • The Mustang Club of West Virginia Open Cruise-In and Model Car Contest will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Winfield Municipal Building.
  • Relative Obscurity will be performing from 6 to 9 p.m. at Emma Rae’s Steakhouse, Hospital Drive, Hurricane.
  • The Putnam County Democratic Women’s Club will be holding their annual picnic and rally at Valley Park in Hurricane. The picnic starts at noon at Shelter #1. RSVP by June 11 by calling 304-727-2218 or emailing [email protected]
  • The wood chipper will be at the Putnam County Recycling Drop Site, located on Midland Trail in Hurricane, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Lighthouse Baptist Church, 2440 US Route 60, Hurricane, will be holding a food pantry from 9 to 11 a.m.
  • There will be a Mom & Me Upbeat Yoga class at 11 a.m. at River Ridge Church, 1 Saturn Way, Hurricane.

  • There will be a monthly bike ride starting at 2 p.m. at Ridenour Lake in Nitro. Meet up by the pump track.

JUNE 15 – 19

  • The Nitro Church of God, 1517 15th Street, Nitro, will be holding Rainforest Falls Vacation Bible School from 6 to 8:30 p.m. each night.
  • The Buffalo Church of the Nazarene, 25053 Buffalo Road, Buffalo, will be holding Down on the Farm Vacation Bible School from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. each evening.

  • Children can learn more about fun vehicles like fire trucks, garbage trucks, school buses, ambulances and more during Feel The Wheels, held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Poca Library.
  • The Kanawha Rock & Gem Club will be showing off part of their rock collection at 1:30 p.m. at the Buffalo Library.
  • The Putnam County Development Authority will be meeting at 4:30 p.m. at Area 34, 971 WV State Route 34, Hurricane. The PCDA will be discussing the data center planned for Buffalo with the public.

JUNE 18

  • Children’s entertainer Edsel shares the effervescent experience of being inside a bubble with his Bubble Show at 10 a.m. at the Eleanor Library.
  • The Putnam County Chamber of Commerce will be hosting Business After Hours from 5 to 7 p.m. at Randolph Engineering, 10401 Teays Valley Road, Scott Depot. To register, call 304-757-6510.

  • Fitness Friday: There will be a Zumba class at 10 a.m. at Valley Park in Hurricane.

  • Winfield United Methodist Church, 20 Radwin Drive, Winfield, will be holding Vacation Bible School from 5:30 to 8 p.m. nightly.

JUNE 20

  • Celebrate the land and trail expansion at Ridenour Lake in Nitro from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • There will be a Rock Branch Area Wide Clean Up from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Truck will be located in front of the Rock Branch Industrial Park, 300 Jacobson Drive, Poca.
  • Main Street Church of Christ, 2582 Main Street, Hurricane, will be holding Fearless Deeds of the Defenders Vacation Bible School from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • The Keagan Gross 4th Annual Memorial Car Show will start at 9 a.m. at River Ridge Church, Saturn Way, Hurricane.
  • Cops N Rodders Classic Car Club will be holding a cruise-in from 5 p.m. to dusk at the Putnam County Bank parking lot behind the Hurricane McDonalds.
