Wet and Wonderful Winfield

The Winfield Watersports Weekend brought paddleboarders and kayakers to the Kanawha River for summer adventures this past Friday and Saturday, June 5 and 6.

The Winfield Boat Launch served as the site of all the fun, with food trucks, vendors, and crafters setting up shop for the weekend. Friday’s entertainment featured live music by the Weekend Warriors and free paddleboard and kayak rentals.

Saturday was the big day for races, with three different categories for competitors of all ages. There was also a rubber duck race, with proceeds going to the Backpack Buddies. An awards ceremony to honor the winners was held following the last race.

Winners of the Youth Race were 1st Place – Eli Burchett; 2nd Place – Max Burchett; 3rd Place – Ricky Burchett. Winners of the Experienced Race were 1st Place – Carter Young; 2nd Place – Doug Kirk; 3rd Place – Shelly Kirk. Winners of the Relay Race were 1st Place – Brian and Carter Young; 2nd Place – Doug and Shelly Kirk, Carter Jones; 3rd Place – Walker and Henry Shamblin.

The Winfield Watersports Weekend was hosted by the City of Winfield, with Mountaineer Paddle LLC managing the races.
