LARRY E. CLENDENIN
Larry E. Clendenin, 77, of Scott Depot, passed away at home on Thursday, October 31, 2024. Larry had suffered for many years from the effects of Lyme’s disease contracted while working as a natural gas well tender.
Larry was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. He was a 1965 graduate of Dunbar High School and served in the Marine Corps Reserves where he was honorably discharged as a Lance Corporal. Larry served as a baseball, basketball and soccer coach as well as a Hurricane High School band dad. He was a jack of all trades and loved to work on and repair friends’ and neighbors’ autos, lawn mowers, etc. Racing old cars was what Larry loved to do and he was inducted into the WV Drag Racers Hall of Fame in 2017. He loved to help anyone, especially his two sons, with anything when they needed him. He was a friend to all that new him.
He leaves behind his wife of 57 years, Judy Clendenin; sons: Mitchell Clendenin (Sherry) of Thompsons Station, TN; Bryan Clendenin (Stacy Claude) of Asheville, NC; grandchildren: Aaron Clendenin of Thompsons Station, TN, Hollis and Merin Clendenin both of Asheville, NC; sister, Caroline Gardner of Dunbar, WV and several nieces and nephews.

JASON CUNNINGHAM
Jason Dee Cunningham, 45, of Hurricane, a loving father, son, brother, and grandson, unexpectedly passed away at home on Tuesday, October 29th, 2024. Jason was born on April 11th, 1979 in Hurricane to Joanie Cunningham and the late Cliff Cunningham.
He is preceded in death by his father, Cliff Cunningham, and his grandparents Janet and Harold Cunningham. Surviving Jason is his mother, Joanie Cunningham of Hurricane; his grandmother, Shirley Elswick of Hurricane; his grandfather, Franklin D. Elswick of Hurricane; his sons, Evan and Seth Harris; His sisters, Jessica Ronk and Stacie Johnson all of Hurricane, as well as several nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, and will always be remembered.
Funeral service was Tuesday, November 5th, 2024 at Valley View Memorial Park Mausoleum, Hurricane.
KATHY HENLINE
Kathy Ann Henline, 57, of Hurricane, passed away October 27, 2024. She was born on August 20,1967. Kathy was a beloved wife, sister, mother, and grandmother and married to Dillard Henline, Jr.
Preceding her in death were her parents Leonard Wiley and Pearl Jean Wiley, sister Patricia Chittenden and brother Glen Wiley.
Surviving husband Dillard Henline, Jr, Children, Marie Norman, Dillard Henline III, Timothy Henline and Jessica Mosley, Grandchildren, Aaron Norman, Jameson Henline, Garrett Henline, Noah Hively, Gracie Norman, Alessa Henline, Taylor Henline and Grayson Bandy. Sisters, Sharon Blevins Comer and Maude Colegrove, She is also survived by 6 nieces and 5 nephews which she loved very much and also their children.
Kathy liked the outdoors, enjoyed fishing and camping were among her favorite hobbies. Kathy attended “Glad Tidings Church”. She also spent many days playing different games with her grandchildren. The people that knew her would agree in saying she had a “Heart of Gold”
Service was Friday, November 1, at Allen Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Rebekah Goff Jarrell officiating. Burial was in Culloden Cemetery, Culloden.
JOYCE HOLLEY
Joyce Ann Holley (nee Stanley), aged 89, passed away on October 31, 2024, in Hurricane. Born on May 23, 1935, in Kayford, West Virginia, to Lonnie and Kathryn Stanley, Joyce was a cherished member of her community and a beloved figure in the Putnam County School system where she worked for many years as an aide. Her compassion and warmth made her a surrogate grandmother to many students, enriching their lives with her kindness and wisdom.
Joyce is survived by a loving family: her husband, Joseph M. Holley; her daughter, Malinda A. Shanklin (David); her sons, Bradley J. Holley and Mark M. Holley (Terri); her grandchildren, Clifton D. Shanklin (Alyson), Adam M. Holley (Jenny), Tracy N. Garrett (Jason), Nicholas Holley, and Chloe M. Ashton (Hunter); and her great-grandchildren, Bryce M. Pfeiff, Makenzy A. Shanklin, Annabelle G. Garrett, Haley N. Shanklin, Elliana F. Garrett, and Barrett M. Holley. She also leaves behind two brothers and one sister.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Lonnie and Kathryn Stanley, five brothers, and two sisters.
Joyce’s life was a testament to the power of nurturing and love. Her legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.
Funeral service was Monday, November 4, 2024 at Allen Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Cooper officiating. Burial was in Holley Cemetery.
Doris Mae Hunter
Doris Mae Hill Hunter, 86, of Winfield, passed away Friday, November 1, 2024.
Doris was born December 21, 1937 in Follansbee to the late Robert and Cleo Hill. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; brothers: William (Yvonne), Robert (Janice), and John Hill.
Doris graduated from Follansbee High School where she met the love of her life and beloved husband of 61 years, Bob Hunter. Both were in the high school band, where Doris played both trumpet and baritone. Music played an important role throughout her life, as she played the piano and hand bells for her church and also sang alto in the church choir.
After having her 5 children, Doris completed her elementary education degree at West Liberty. She worked mainly in Pre-K and Kindergarten in numerous locations. After retiring she was very active in the church doing various music and children’s programs, and MOPS. She also became a Stephen Minister and participated in the Walk to Emmaus.
Doris is survived by her children: Roberta (Augie) Ziccarelli, Rick (Aiwu) Hunter, Ray (Christy) Hunter, Ronda (Dan) Wilkes, Reva (Frank) Capehart; 13 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service for Doris will be 1:00 pm, Sunday, November 10, 2024, at Winfield United Methodist Church, Winfield.
Margaret Dale Michau
Margaret Dale Michau, 78, of Hurricane, passed away on October 30, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on March 18, 1946, in Bremerton, Washington, Margaret, affectionately known as Marge and Margie, was a beacon of joy and generosity, cherished by all who knew her. Marge was a spitfire and loved life! Dancing, listening to music, gathering with friends and family are the ways she loved to celebrate life.
Marge dedicated her career to helping others, first through her work with The ARC, where she formed many lifelong friendships, and later with the West Virginia Citizen Group, where she engaged in spirited discussions on political and social issues. Her commitment to service and community left a lasting impact.
She was a woman of profound spiritual beliefs, celebrating her faith in everyday moments and interactions. Marge’s hobbies included reading, gardening, traveling throughout West Virginia, dining out, watching sports, and, most importantly, spending time with her cherished family.
Marge was preceded in death by the love of her life, Richard Bruce Zegeer, on July 1, 2015. She is also preceded by her parents, brother, and many aunts and uncles.
Surviving Marge is her daughter, Andrea L. Graziano and husband Philip, their daughters, Alexis and Annabella Graziano, along with pup, Allie; her son Dr. Kenneth J. Michau and wife Kate, along with children, Jake and Will Scarlett. Also, her life-long friends, that were just like family, Don and Sylvia Smith, of Pittsburgh, PA, and their children and grandchildren; sister, Lurah Houghtaling and husband Harry, their children and grandchildren of GA, FL and SC.
Honoring her wishes, there will be no services.
John Mitchell Napier
John Mitchell Napier, 87, of Red House, passed away Saturday, October 26th, surrounded by family at St. Mary’s Medical Center. John was a 1955 graduate of Scott High School. He attended Warren Wilson College in Swannanoa, NC and then Marshall University where he graduated with a masters degree plus 45 in education. Over his long teaching career he taught at Scott High School, Buffalo High School, and Putnam County Vocational School. He also coached numerous sports at Scott and Buffalo. He was a dedicated teacher and coach who touched the lives of many students and athletes during his career.
John served in the Army National Guard and was a member of the American Legion Post 187 and Kanawha Valley Lodge #36 A.F & A.M. in Buffalo. He attended Christ Community Church in Scott Depot. In his free time, John volunteered at the Hospice House, enjoyed camping, bluegrass music, gardening, and woodworking, where he made many beautiful items such as: clocks, guitars, canes, furniture, and more. He also enjoyed watching sports, spending time with family and friends, and with his beloved dogs Buddy and Ginger. John will be remembered as a kind and generous man who would do anything for his family and friends. He took in many relatives over the years and treated them as if they were his own children.
He was born on July 20th, 1937, in Logan County to the late Hawk Napier and Edna Napier. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Elizabeth Moore Napier; sisters, Delores Daniels, Irene Beckner, and Mary Osborne; brother, Ronald Napier.
He is survived by his children, Debbie Sayre of Leon and Rick (Robyn) Napier of Scott Depot; brother, Elmer Napier of Vienna and sister, JoAnn Keenan of Largo, FL. He will be dearly missed by all of his cherished grandchildren, who called him “Pop Pop”: Zach (Gari) Sayre of Point Pleasant, Colby Sayre of Leon, Mackenzie Baldridge of Coal Grove, OH; and Taryn (Geoffrey) Bramblett of Valdosta, GA; great-grandchildren, Presleigh and Blair Baldridge, Madison and Wesley Pearson, Nick Cichon-Ledderhose, Antonio De Luca, and Sean Wilson. He recently was honored to become a great great grandpa to Evelynn and Dexton Evans. He also leaves behind special brother- and sister-in-law, Jerry and Janet Moore, and nephews and great nephews and nieces, Jared (Kelsi) Moore, Corey (Kierra) Moore, Noah Moore, Ason Moore, Ella Moore, Emma Moore, and Natalie Jones who he considered to be like his own children and grandchildren; as well as numerous brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
A private family celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
Linda Fay Parker
Linda Fay “Linde” Parker, 72, of Poca, went home to be with the Lord Friday, November 1, 2024.
Linde was born to the late Robert and Madonna Parker. She enjoyed going to church and gospel sings with her best friend and caregiver, Elma Hornish.
Left to cherish her memories are her siblings Frank Parker, Harold Parker, Mary Parker, and Ellen Bays, and special friends Jesse and Patty Rowley and their family. Linde is also survived by other family and a host of friends.
A tribute to the life of Linda Parker was held Monday, November 4, 204 at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home with Chad Harding officiating. Private burial was in Haven of Rest Memory Gardens, Red House.
Barbara A. Pringle
Barbara Ann Pringle, 76, of Hometown, went home to be with the Lord, Monday, November 4, 2024, in CAMC Hospice.
Barbara was born November 20, 1947, to the late Glen and Irene Ranson. She is also preceded in death by her husband John Allen Pringle and her brother William “Bud” Ranson.
She attended Liberty Community Church and Allens Fork Community Church. She is a graduate of Poca High School and began working in childcare after graduation. Barbara was a homemaker most of her life and enjoyed crafts, traveling, and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her daughters Vicki Lynn Arthur and husband Mark of Poca, Lorrie Lee Workman of Dunbar, and Robert Allen Pringle and wife Stacey Pringle of Louisiana; brother Ralph Ranson and wife Edith of Liberty; stepdaughters Anita Lynn Pringle Cheeks of Bancroft and Angela Pringle Witt of Red House; and grandchildren Brandon M. Arthur, Sierra L. Arthur, Tanner Dworsky, Mason Harrison, Miranda Pringle, Cody Witt, and Hannah Witt Townsend.

Sandra ‘Sandee’ Simms
Sandra ‘Sandee’ Ann Simms, 76, of Hurricane, was called by God on October 31, 2024. She was a devoted Mother, Wife, and Friend, and will be missed by all.
She was the daughter of the late Maryanne (Cremeans) Layne and Ivan Cremeans. Sandee is survived by her Husband, Danny R Simms; Children, Jeffry Cremeans, Brett Simms (Amy), and Jeremy Simms (Leanne); Grandchildren, Brandon, Grant, Jenna, Lauren and Emmy; Great Grandchildren, Hunter and Brooklynn.
Funeral service was Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at Allen Funeral Home with Rev. Ellis Conley officiating. Burial was in White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Barboursville.
Carter Todd Thayer
On October 29, 2024, Jesus came and transported our Precious Carter to Heaven.
Carter Todd Thayer, 12 of Poca, will forever be missed and loved by his father Cameron Thayer, mother Heather Earley, siblings Caroline Thayer, Jackson Earley, and Elaina Earley, grandparents Todd and Chrissy Thayer, Marcy Smith, Melvin Mace, Carolyn Thayer, and Jeanetta McCoy, and aunts and uncles Ryan (Lexi) Thayer, Hannah Estep, David Estep, and Garrett Estep.
Carter was a 7th grade student at Poca Middle School. He enjoyed motorcycles, four wheelers, camping, fishing, going to the movies, video games, and hanging out with his family and friends. His unconditional love will continue in the lives of many as Carter gave even in his death by being an organ donor.
