LINDA M. BAIER
Linda M. Baier, 76, of Winfield, formerly of St. Albans, went home to be with the Lord, Friday, March 21, 2025, in the Hubbard Hospice House West surrounded by her loving family.
Linda was born May 10, 1948, in Charleston to the late Northup and Reva Clark. She loved the Lord with all her heart and dedicated her life to her late husband Floyd Baier, her children and grandchildren, whom she loved dearly.
She is survived by her daughter Kim and husband Mike Wine; son David and wife Tiffany Baier; three brothers Mike, Greg and Don Clark; three grandchildren Jacob and wife Samantha Baier, Brady Wine, and Jackson Wine; and one great granddaughter.
A service to celebrate Linda’s life will be held at a later date.

JACKIE RAY BAILEY
Jackie Ray Bailey, 79, of Red House, passed away Sunday, March 16, 2025. He was a graduate of Buffalo High School and retired as a millwright from Union Carbide chemical plant in Institute. Jackie was a born again Christian and loved quoting scriptures. He sang with his wife in church and felt such great joy rejoicing in the Lord. Even on his final day, the family had the gospel music playing loudly so he could feel God’s Holy Spirit. He loved his wife, Carolyn, with all his heart as well as his family. They had a beautiful marriage together and built an amazing life together. They raised a family that was built on values that their children and grandchildren will take with them forever. They had a bond that was powerful and loving. Even in his final days, he was comforted and surrounded with his loving wife and family.
Jackie was avid in restoring Mopar cars with his son, Randy, and had a brilliant mind in mechanics. He was an artist as well and attended Art Instruction Schools. If you knew Jackie, you would know he was one of a kind and a real blessing to learn from and be around. God gained an amazing man on Sunday. His life on this Earth will never be forgotten.
Born July 17, 1945, he was the son of the late Beechie L. Bailey and Ida W. Bailey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Harold Lee “Leroy” Bailey.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Carolyn Sue Bailey; son, Randy “Butch” (Debbie) Bailey of Eleanor; daughters, Jeanette (Shannon) Jeffers of Eleanor, Rebecca (Anthony) Miller of Poca and Pauline ( Donovan) Beaver of St. Albans; brother, Arnold (Mary) Bailey of Red House; grandchildren, Brandon Bailey, Derek Bailey, Chelsea McBrayer, Elizabeth Bailey, Hannah Jeffers, Eathan Jeffers, Nathan Jeffers and Shawn Miller; great grandchildren, Connor, Ella, Tyler, Haley, Aubree, Hattie, Rory, Jovie, Piper and Scarlet.
Funeral service was Friday, March 21, 2025 at Raynes Funeral Home, Eleanor, with Pastor Ray Parsons officiating. Entombment was in Haven of Rest Memory Gardens, Red House.

JEWEL (JEAN) BEAVER
Jewel Imogene (Jean) Beaver, age 95, of Hurricane, passed asway Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Rolling Meadowes Place. She was born September 8, 1929, daughter of the late Estel and Ida Hodges. She was a homemaker and attended the First Baptist Church of Hurricane.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Beaver.
Surviving are her children, Malia (Bill) Dotson and Paul (Conda) Beaver. Her grandchildren Joshua Beaver and Sydney Sandoval and three great grandchildren: Scarlett, Slade and Nova.

SUSAN CAROL BRACKEN
Susan Carol Bracke, 77, of Scott Depot, passed away on March 21, 2025 at her home surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Susan was born on June 29, 1947 to the late Horace and Mary (Austin) Perdue.
She was a sales associate at Talbot’s where she loved working with her friends, loved to travel and attend all of her grandchildren’s events.
Susan is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 59 years, Charles Steele Bracken III; her loving children: Julia Bracken Ciliberti and Charles Bracken IV; grandchildren: Alex, Bella, Quinn and Harper; as well as a great grandchild on the way.
A Celebration of Susan’s Life was held Tuesday, March 25, 2025 at Chapman Funeral Home, Hurricane.

Roger P. Casto, Sr.
Roger P. Casto, Sr., 78, of Buffalo, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 19, 2025.
Roger is retired school bus driver with Putnam County Schools with 16 years of service and former employee of Avtex Fiber in Nitro with 15 years of service. He is an Air Force Veteran and a member of Wilkinson Memorial United Methodist Church.
He is preceded in death by his wife Linda Dunlap Casto; parents Parvin and Dorcas Casto; and sister Misha June Jividen.
Roger is survived by his children Catherine (Forest) Cooper of Leon, Iowa, Kenneth E. Dunlap of Buffalo, Connie (Thomas, Sr.) Carte of Buffalo, and Roger (Roberta) Casto, Jr. of Buffalo; 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
A tribute to the life of Roger P. Casto, Sr. was held Monday, March 24, 2025, at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Darren Persinger officiating. Burial was in Moss Chapel Cemetery.

Dawn Michele Clark
Dawn “Michele” Clark, 57, of Winfield, passed away Sunday March 23, 2025 at CAMC Memorial Hospice surrounded by her family and friends.
A tribute to the life of Michele will be 2:00 PM Saturday, March 29, 2025 at The Bridge Church, Scott Depot. Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until time of service. Burial will follow at Haven of Rest Memory Gardens in Red House, West Virginia.

Brenda Epling
Brenda Epling, 78, passed away on March 18, 2025, at St. Mary’s Hospital. She was a devoted wife, mother, and friend who found joy in spending time at the beach, camping, and boating. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Marie Sovine and her brother, Bucky.
Brenda is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Ray Epling; her daughters, Terri Burford (Jeff), Kelly Allen (Greg), Stacy McPherson (Todd), and Sherri McClure (Will); and her grandchildren, Jessica Burford, Ryan Burford, Noah Allen, Tony Allen, McKenzie Allen, Bryer McPherson, Brogan McPherson, and Cameron Dionne. She will be deeply missed by a host of family and friends.
Funeral service was Saturday, March 22, 2024 at Allen Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Losh officiating, Burial was in Valley View Memorial Park.

Neal Foote
Neal Charles Foote, 84, of Hurricane, passed away Monday, March 24, 2025, in Putnam Center after a short illness.
He was born January 3, 1941, in Wisconsin to the late Charles and Doris Foote. He is survived by his wife Mary Ann Foote and 2 Sons and 8 Stepchildren.
Following his wishes there will be no services.

Franklin M. Hanson
Franklin M. Hanson, 82, of Pliny, passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at home.
He is a 1960 graduate of Cadiz High School and retired with 28 years of service from Union Carbide/ Rhone Poulenc/ Bayer. Frank was the owner/driver of Stock Car #84 “Snoopy” from 1971-1984 where he won many heat races and championships in the Tri-State area. He also attended Mt. Union Church, Pliny, and Buffalo Church of God.
Frank is preceded in death by his mother and stepfather Pauline and Floyd Twigg; father and stepmother Jerry and Eva Hanson; youngest son Richard Hanson; brother David Hanson; stepbrother James Love; and great granddaughter Kylie Garrison.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Judy Hanson; four children Donna Booth of Tornado, Teresa Scott of Hurricane, Frank Hanson, Jr. of Cross Lanes, and James Hanson of LaGrange, NC; sister Sandra Bolen of Hurricane; 9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Frank never met a stranger and even had an extra garage where he would fix anything for anybody for free.
At his request there will be no services.

Keith Slater Hudson
Rev. Keith S. Hudson, 88, of Scott Depot, went Home to be with the Lord on March 19, 2025 at Hubbard Hospice House West in South Charleston.
He was born on October 21, 1936, to the late Delmar and Mildred Hudson. He proudly served his country in the US NAVY from 1954 until 1957 as an Electrician’s Mate. He was retired from FMC South Charleston Plant after 35 years of service. He was a Church of God Pastor, serving many area churches in WV and attended Scary Creek Church of God.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Joyce Hudson; son, Keith E. “Eddie” Hudson of Scott Depot; daughter, Diana Cain (Steve) of Apple Grove; sisters: Carole Waters (Wiley) of Forest, VA, Frances Fogerson (Dewey) of Knoxville, TN, and Nancy Harold (Rick) of Southport, NC; grandchildren: Chassie Estep of Hayes, VA, Rev. Nathan Cain of Fraziers Bottom, Chelsey Tripp of North, VA, and Justin Cain of Pleasant Hill, CA; 9 great grandchildren and 1 great great-grandchild.
Funeral service for Keith was Monday, March 24, 2025 at Scary Creek Church of God in Scott Depot with Grandson Rev. Nathan Cain officiating. Burial was in Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston.

Joel E. Jividen
Joel E. Jividen, 65, of Poca, passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at Hubbard Hospice House West at Thomas Memorial Hospital. He was a graduate of Elk Valley Christian School and attended Cross Lanes Bible Church. He was a longtime employee and partial owner of Gas Flow Service.
He was born March 5, 1960, in Pt. Pleasant. He was the son of Vernon E. Jividen of Cross Lanes and the late Hilda Sheets Jividen. In addition to his mother, he is preceded in death by his step-son, Randy Walden.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Jane Jividen; step-son Eric (Amy) Booth of Poca; sister, Joanna (Jeff) Foster of Greenville, SC; and step-grandson, Jack Walden of Gainesville, FL. Joel is also survived by six nieces, nine nephews, and extended family and friends.
A memorial service was held Saturday, March 22, 2025 at Raynes Funeral Home, Eleanor, with Pastor Ben Edwards officiating.

Betty Johnston
Betty Jo Johnston, 95, of Hurricane, formerly of Point Pleasant, peacefully departed this life and went home to the Lord on March 20, 2025.
Betty Jo Walters was born on April 12, 1929, in Rainelle, West Virginia. As a child, Betty’s family moved to Mount Hope and then to Charleston. She graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School in 1947. Betty then graduated from Morris Harvey College in 1951 with a bachelor’s degree in Biology. At Morris Harvey, Betty formed lifelong friendships in her sorority and sang in the traveling choir. She put that education to work at the West Virginia State Laboratory for twelve years. After getting married she became a full time homemaker and mother, also helping as needed with her husband’s veterinary practice.
After moving to Point Pleasant in 1967, Betty was dedicated to helping others and serving in leadership roles in her church and community. Betty was a Christian and a member of Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church until her passing. At her church, Betty taught Sunday School, led a community food bank and served on the session, the governing body of the church. She served as Clerk of the session, which is the lay leader of the church, and led two different searches for new pastors when vacancies occurred. For many years, Betty led the Red Cross Bloodmobile program in Point Pleasant. Betty was also active for many years in the homemakers clubs of Mason County, as a member and officer of her home club, the Camp Conley Homemakers, and at the county level. Betty enjoyed the many friendships she made with her fellow homemakers.
Betty will also be remembered as a loving, loyal and kind daughter, sister, wife, aunt, mother, grandmother and friend. She loved cooking, baking, crafts and cats. Betty was an excellent player of Shanghai Rummy.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents Herbert and Frances Walters; her husband, Dr. William E. Johnston; and her brothers, Herbert Walters, Jr., and Robert Walters. She is survived by her son, U.S. District Judge Thomas E. Johnston, his wife Sydney and stepdaughter Olivia; grandchildren Joie Johnston, Esq., of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Dr. Jack Johnston and his significant other, Casey Underwood, of Gainesville, Florida; great granddaughter Adilyn Grace Johnston; Betty’s brother Bill Walters and his wife, Pat, of Eagle, Idaho, and their children, Mike Walters, of Meridian, Idaho, and Sharon Hurlbut and her husband Dennis of Hillsboro, Oregon; nephew Rob Walters and his wife, Kerry, of Charleston, South Carolina; and niece, Pamela Tessnear and her husband, Marshall Tessnear of Blackburg, Virginia.
Memorial service was Wednesday, March 26, at Allen Funeral Home in Hurricane, with family friend Pastor Thom Mollohan officiating. Betty was laid to rest beside her husband at Forest Hills Cemetery in Letart.

Thomas Clark Runnion
Thomas Clark Runnion, 77, of Scott Depot, passed away Monday, March 17, 2025, at home.
Tom was born January 28, 1948, in Charleston, to the late Donzel Wesley and Mabel Irene Cox Runnion. He is a 1966 graduate of Poca High School where he participated in football and basketball. He is a retired mail carrier from the USPS. Tom is a veteran serving in the US Marines 1966-1968 and US Army 1970-1972 and is a purple heart recipient.
He is survived by his daughter Andrea (Briana) Runnion; stepson Robert (Amber) Thornton, II; grandson Robert Thornton, III; granddaughter Cheslea (Jeremiah) Asbury; siblings Sandy Runnion, Bob (Brenda) Runnion, Tim (Jill) Runnion, Eddie Runnion, and Rose Runnion; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved grand dogs Daisy and Pepper.
Tom was a devoted father and always put family first. He was known for telling jokes and making everyone laugh. He was an avid sports fan and loved cheering on the WVU Mountaineers and the Kansas City Chiefs. Tom enjoyed attending his Vet group meetings weekly and everyone there held a special place in his heart. He loved going to family gatherings and his weekly trips to Golden Corral with his brother. Tom will be greatly missed.
Burial with Military Honors was in Donel C. Kinnard State Veterans Cemetery on Friday, March 21, 2025.

Sharon Kay Saul
Sharon Kay Richardson Saul, 64, of Poca, passed away March 18, 2025, at home.
Sharon was born in South Charleston on November 5, 1960, to the late Roy Richardson, Jr. and Betty Withrow Richardson Angel. She is a graduate of Poca High School and former owner, along with her husband of H & S Heating and Cooling. Sharon enjoyed camping, working in her flower garden and feeding the birds.
Besides her parents and her husband Terry, she is also preceded in death by her brothers Dwight, Bob, Mike and David Richardson.
She is survived by her sister Tudy Maass; brother Marvin (Teresa) Richardson; nephew Steve (Sonjia) Richardson; nieces Angie, Stephanie, Rachel, Becky, and Brittany; and several nieces and nephews especially her great niece Sutton. Sharon is also survived by the many friends she has made over the years.
Visitation was Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home.

Glenn Eugene Shamblen
Glenn Eugene Shamblen, 88, of Red House, passed away on Saturday, March 15, 2025, following a short illness. He was a retired chemical operator and steel worker from Monsanto in Nitro. He was a US Army veteran and an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman.
Born on March 14, 1937, he was the son of the late Herman Shamblen and Freda Hein Shamblen. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Richard Shamblen and Gene Shamblen.
Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Barbara Withrow Shamblen; son, Mark Shamblen (Kim) of Red House and daughters, Terri Miles (Scott) of Mountain City, TN, and Lori Shamblen of Hurricane; grandchildren, Andrea Huey, Shane Hawley, Kassidy Starcher, John Michael Miles, Tanner Miles; great grandchildren, McKenzie Huey, Layla Huey, Cooper Huey and great grandchild, Tatum Starcher.
In accordance with his wishes, there are no services planned for the public, but a private family memorial will be held at a later date.
