GARY K. ASBURY
Gary Keith Asbury Sr., 87, of Hurricane, passed away on May 10, 2025 at Hubbard Hospice House West in South Charleston.
He was born on September 22, 1937 to the late Sebert M. and Oreda M. Cook Asbury in Widen. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Joan Asbury.
Gary was a retired Chemist from Union Carbide, a member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church in St. Albans and also served as a Past Master at Dunbar Lodge #159 A.F. & A.M.
Gary is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Barbara June Amick Asbury; daughter, Donna Meador (Marc) of Bruceton Mills; son, Keith Asbury DDS (Cheryl) of Buffalo; 4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Funeral service was Thursday, May 15, 2025, at Chapman Funeral Home, Hurricane, with Rev. Ed Grant officiating. Burial was in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane.
DORIS JEAN CARNEY
Doris Jean Carney, 79, of Poca, passed away Saturday, May 10, 2025.
Born September 6, 1946, her first love was dancing, she became the best Jitterbug dancer in Pittsburgh. She loved her bowling leagues. She also loved roller skating. Doris was really great at cooking, baking and making jellies and jams. She was also an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
Doris was a devoted member of “The Rebekah’s”, a worldwide women’s service organization. She served as President twice 2010-2011 and 2016-2017, she also served as president of the State of WV LAPM. Doris also served as Chaplin of International LAPM. Doris also received The Decoration of Chivalry.
Doris was preceded in death by her Brother, Mother and Grandmother.
Left behind to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 37 years Marion “Mike” Carney, her children Kelli Fikisz (Chris), Carl Klauscher Jr. (Valerie), Valerie West (Delbert), Stepchildren Melissa Johnson (David), Michael Carney and Sister Dawn, along with many loving Grandchildren and Great Grand Children.
A Celebration of Life Service was held Thursday May 15, 2025, at Cooke Funeral Home, Nitro, with Monsignor Frederick Annie officiating. Entombment was in Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens, Red House.
MARSHA DAVIS
Marsha Ann Gilfilen Davis, 71, of Hurricane, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 7, 2025 after a long illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Janice Lou Hodges Gilfilen; son, Larry Michael Dailey, and brother, Joe Gilfilen.
She is survived by her husband John Davis, daughter, Stephenie Freeman and (Matthew), son, Scott Davis (Georgie), Stepchildren Christy Germany, Tessa Davis, John Davis Jr., 19 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, sisters, Brenda Gilfilen Ginn (Marshall) of Hurricane, Verda Gilfilen Myers of WI and Carla Gilfilen Flynn (Jerry) of Eleanor and brothers Brett Gilfilen of Hurricane and Rex Gilfilen of New Haven, Aunt Linda Hodges Porreca of OH, many nieces and nephews and friends that will miss her.
Funeral service was Friday, May 9, 2025 at Allen Funeral Home with Pastor John Bailey officiating. Burial was in Valley View Memorial Park.
JAMES ‘MICK’ MICHAEL HAGER
James Michael “Mick” Hager, 68, of Leland, NC, formerly of Scott Depot, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2025, at SECU Hospice House of Brunswick, NC.
Born on September 20, 1956, in Gallipolis, Ohio, Mick was the son of James G. Hager and the late Barbara Anne Hager. A 1974 graduate of St. Albans High School, Mick went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Cincinnati in 1978. An accomplished tennis athlete, he was ranked 2nd in the state of West Virginia in tennis and played for the University of Cincinnati. He also shared his love for the game as a tennis instructor.
Mick began his professional career with Great American Insurance in Cincinnati before becoming a third-generation State Farm agent in West Virginia. He served clients in Eleanor for five years before moving into leadership roles as an Agency Manager and Agency Field Executive for ten years. He eventually took over his father’s agency in St. Albans, continuing the family legacy and serving his community as a dedicated State Farm agent until his retirement, after 22 successful years.
An avid golfer and active community member, Mick was a long-time member of Sleepy Hollow Golf Club in Hurricane, where he served on the Board of Directors. After relocating to North Carolina, he became a member of Cape Fear National Golf Club in Brunswick Forest.
Mick is survived by his devoted wife, Shirley; his children: Mike, AJ, and Wes Hager; his stepdaughter, Bridgette Jividen; seven grandchildren: Lily, Elise, Joey, Jack, Josh, Drew, Naomi; and step-grandchild, Dominic. He is also survived by his father, Jim Hager; sisters: Laurie Miller (Richard) and Deb Forney; and a wide circle of extended family and cherished friends.
Mick will be remembered for his warmth, his love of sports, his dedication to his family and career, and the deep friendships he cultivated throughout his life.
Funeral Service for Mick will be 1:00pm Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Chapman Funeral Home, Hurricane. Burial will follow in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. Friends may visit the family from 6:00pm until 7:30pm Friday, May 16, 2025, and an hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
Wilfredo Molano
Wilfredo N. Molano, age 82, passed away on April 28, 2025, in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Born on November 17, 1942, in Lingayen, Pangasinan, Philippines, he is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years Helen of Infanta and Lingayen, Pangasinan, his loving daughter Jennifer, and his son-in-law Matthew.
Wilfredo was preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Maria Purification Molano, brothers Jaime (Alegria), Rodulfo (Consuelo), Arnold (Marita), and Edward Molano, sister Florangel Molano-Malubag, sister-in-law Ester Viray, and brother-in-law Efren Viray. Wilfredo also will be forever in the hearts of his sisters-in-law, Gloria Viray and Josephine Rosario, brothers-in-law Cesar (Florence), Leonidas, Vicente (Keri) and Florante (Frida) Viray and their families, as well as his innumerable nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, godchildren, and extended family.
After receiving his medical degree at Far Eastern University in Manila, Philippines, Wilfredo came to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to further his medical studies. He served as a solo general medical practitioner for 37 years in West Virginia with clinics in Hurricane, Hamlin and Sissonville, and he concluded his career as the medical director of the Huntington Treatment Center.
His many accomplishments included becoming Chief of Staff at Putnam General Hospital (now Charleston Area Medical Center Teays Valley Hospital) and leading a medical mission to the province of Pangasinan in the Philippines as president of the Tri-State Filipino-American Association of West Virginia, Ohio, and Kentucky. His legacy lives through the kindness that he cared for his patients, the generosity towards those whom he loved, his dedication to his family and friends, and his service to the community – all of which were driven by his steadfast Catholic faith. He was devoted to the Infant Jesus Santo Nino and enjoyed adventures traveling to Catholic sites across the world with his wife, including Lourdes, Assisi, Fatima, and many others, even traveling from Rome to Prague by train.
He loved singing, dancing, and watching college and professional sports, including football, basketball, hockey, golf, tennis, and wrestling.
Services were held on Tuesday, May 13, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Cincinnati, OH. Burial to be in Perris Valley Cemetery, Perris, California.
Gloria Rumbaugh
Gloria “Louise” (Yoder) Rumbaugh, 90, of Hurricane, passed away at home on May 7, 2025 after a short illness.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Thomas along with brothers Leon and Paul, sisters – Madolyn, Lora Mae and Joyce.
She is survived by her children, son Andy (Wilda) of Jonesboro, TN, daughter Sandy (Mark) Smith of Hurricane; grandchildren Alex and Jacob Rumbaugh of Nashville, TN, Trevor and Audrey Smith both of Hurricane; one sister Mary Catherine Fisher of Florda.
Louise was a homemaker and a devout Christian.
A graveside service will be held May 29, 2025, at 1 p.m., at Mount Olive Baptist Church cemetery.
Charles ‘Jup’ Tucker
Charles Richard (Jup) Tucker, 80, of Statesville, NC, passed away into the arms of his Lord and Savior, on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center, in Charlotte, NC, surrounded by his family. He was a 1962 graduate of Point Pleasant High School and an operator at Goodyear Chemical Plant in Apple Grove where he retired in 1998.
Charles was born on December 8, 1944, in Grimm’s Landing, a son to the late Harold R and Mary K Tucker. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his siblings Diane Tucker Thomas and Noland Tucker.
Charles is survived by the love of his life and wife of 60 years, Brenda Frazier Tucker; son and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Denina Tucker, of Millersport, OH; daughter, Martha Ross, of Seabrook Island, SC; daughter and son-in-law, Paige and Randy Stump, of Statesville, NC; son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Jennifer Tucker, of Melbourne, FL; grandchildren, Ashley, Ryan, Andrew, Halle, Alex, Travis, Trevor, Dalton, Sydney and Reagan; 5 great-grandchildren, Jayden, Kennedy, Layla, Baker and Liam; brother and sister-in-law, Eddy and Terri Tucker; sister and brother-in-law, Mary “Sis” and Leo Buck; sister, Kathy Tucker Wise; and sister-in-law, Linda Tucker, in addition to several nieces and nephews.
Charles’s life will be remembered at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Raynes Funeral Home-Eleanor. Burial will follow in Tucker Cemetery in Grimms Landing. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
