TERESA CUNNINGHAM
Teresa “Terry” Souther Cunningham, of Culloden, passed away on July 9, 2025, at St. Mary’s Hospital after a short illness.
Terry was a proud graduate of West Virginia University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree, and Marshall University, where she completed her master’s degree. She dedicated her professional life to education and retired from Putnam County Schools with over 36 years of devoted service as a teacher.
A passionate advocate for public education, Terry was deeply involved with the American Federation of Teachers (AFT). She served as Secretary and President of AFT Putnam, a member of the AFT-WV Executive Board, Retiree Representative on the AFT-WV E-Board, and was an AFT-WV State Trainer. Her leadership, mentorship, and tireless efforts have left a lasting impact on educators across the state.
Terry was also actively involved in West Virginia Gold Star Mothers, where she played a key role in organizing and supporting fundraising events such as the WV Gold Star Mothers Bridge Ride, the Mt. Nebo St. Patrick’s Day Parade, and the Living Memorial Apple Orchard. She was the president of the West Virginia Gold Star Mothers Chapter.
A woman of strong faith, Terry was a member of First Baptist Church of Hurricane, where she found joy in singing in the choir.
She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Staff Sergeant Robert Timothy Cunningham, and her parents, Robert Lyle Souther and Eleanor Irene Full Souther.
Terry will be remembered as a devoted daughter, loving mother, loyal friend, dedicated dog lover, and enthusiastic WVU fan. She is survived by a host of cousins and friends, as well as her cherished dog, Charlie.
A memorial service was held Thursday, July 17, at First Baptist Church of Hurricane, with Rev. Jeff Davenport officiating.
MARY ‘MOLLY’ RUTH DALY
Mary “Molly” Ruth Daly 88, of South Charleston, passed away on July 5, 2025 at Teays Valley Center in Hurricane.
She was born on August 21, 1936 to the late Emily and John Maloney in Pittsburgh, PA. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Daly; and her daughter-in-law, Rita Daly.
Molly dedicated her life to her family and community, embodying roles as a teacher, politician, mother, and grandmother with unwavering commitment. She graduated from Bethany College where she laid the groundwork for her future endeavors in education and public service. Her career as a teacher was marked by a passion for nurturing young minds, while her tenure in local politics was driven by a desire to effect positive change in her community. A devout member of St. Teresa of Avila in Pittsburgh, PA, Molly’s faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her actions and interactions.
Her legacy continues through her sister, Ann Stottlemyer; her children: Beth (Garen) McDowell, Tim (Susie) Daly, and Pete Daly; along with her 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, who will carry forward her spirit of life and generosity.
A service to honor Molly’s Life was held July 16, 2025 at Ascension Catholic Church in Hurricane.
LAMOND MYERS
Lamond Keller Myers, 76, of Hurricane, passed away July 8, 2025, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, Huntington. Born October 22, 1948, a son of the late Lester and Lillie Sutphin Myers.
He was preceded in death by a sister Phyllis Jeanie Smith, Brothers Lloyd Myers and Joe Collins, Niece Jeanna Ann Smith, Nephew David Smith, an aunt whom he loved as a mother, Bobby Myers Pauley. He is survived by, Brother, Toney Myers. Sister, Patrica Wilmoth, Brother-in-law, Michael (Paula) Smith. Sister-in-Law, Charlene Myers. Friends to numerous to name. A special friend he loved dearly Ruby Parson, friend Billy Robertson, Pastor David Vickers and family and Elijah Chapman.
We remember him as an avid outdoorsman, Deer hunting, Molly Moochers, ginseng and ramp digging which he supplied many of his friends with. He also loved to pick wild blackberries raspberries which he had picked over fifty gallons in one year. We offer special thanks to Sycamore Baptist Church which he was a member and loved dearly He was so exited to tell everyone he rededicated his life to the Lord on July 3, 2025, and said I am going to heaven.
Funeral service was Saturday, July 12, 2025, at Sycamore Baptist Church. Interment was in Sycamore Cemetery.
JERRY WAYNE PERDEW
Jerry W. Perdew, 83, of Hurricane, peacefully passed away surrounded by family on July 10, 2025.
He was born on September 9, 1941 to the late George and Priscilla Workman Perdew in St. Albans. In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his brothers: George and Rick Perdew.
After graduation Jerry joined the US Army and began his career working for Union Carbide as a Craft Supervisor where he later retired. He was a member of Putnam Lodge #139 A.F. & A.M. Hurricane and Teays Valley Church of God. Jerry Loved the Lord and spending time with his family. He was a great loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to many.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife of almost 64 years (on July 13, 2025), Amalee Joan Perdew; children: Carla Baldwin (Bobby Wayne) of Scott Depot, WV and Mike Perdew (Kathie Jo) of Hurricane, WV; 4 grandchildren: Courtney Holmes, Nicole Clendenin, Jacob and Katie Perdew; 9 great-grandchildren; and siblings: Judy Rollins, Kathy Fisher (Tom), Mitzi Burgess, Greg Perdew (Mary) and Mark Perdew.
Funeral service for Jerry was Tuesday, July 15, 2025 at Chapman Funeral Home, Hurricane, with Rev. Dr. Melissa Pratt and Pastor David Bowen officiating. Burial was in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.
VENESA SMITH
Vanesa Gale Smith, 68, of Hurricane, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 6, 2025 after a short illness.
Born May 23, 1957 to the late Lloyd and Helen Burdette McCallister, she was preceded in death by her parents.
Vanesa graduated from Milton High School and was most notably known for her musical talents, including playing her guitar which she truly loved.
Vanesa is survived by her oldest sister Violet Jane Lambert, her only brother Vernon Dale and his wife Theresa and their family and her former spouse Dr. Charles Smith, DDS.
A private burial will be held.
