CRYSTAL LYNN DEAL
Crystal Lynn Deal, 49, of Poca, passed away on August 26, 2025, at her home.
Crystal was a graduate of Poca High School and known as a dedicated and hard worker. She was a loving mother and grandmother who cherished time spent with her family. She especially enjoyed trips to the beach, where she found peace and joy.
She was the daughter of the late Gary Deal and Debbie Stewart.
Left to treasure her memory are her son, Brandon Keith (Kenda) Thornton; brothers, Jamie Casto and Josh Casto; sister, Krinda Bowman; aunt, Annette Holston; and two great-grandchildren, Brycen and Ashlynn.
At her request, there will be no services.
WARREN D. DICKERSON, SR.
Warren Delano Dickerson, Sr., 76, of Poca, formerly of Columbus, OH, passed away August 28, 2025, at home.
Warren was a retired brick mason and proud member of Brick Layers Local #55. He was an avid Ohio State fan, loved hunting, and enjoyed watching football and NASCAR.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Jean Dickerson; parents, Isaiah “Zeke” and Katie Dickerson; brothers, William, Paul, Denny, Martin, Glen, and Wayne; and sister, Virginia.
Left to cherish his memory are his five children, Angela Clagg, Warren “Bub” (Loretta) Dickerson, Pam Young, John (Summer) Dickerson, and Mike (Tritia) Whittington; sisters, Linda (Randy) Walter and Carol Beller; brother, Robert (Neda) Dickerson; 10 grandchildren, Courtney (Mathew), Brandi (Travis), Amber (Matt), Jacob, August, Isaiah, Chelsea, Haley, Tanya (Jeremy), and Jennifer; along with six great-grandchildren, Waylon, Jackson, Avelynn, Dalton, Wyatt, and Harlee.
A tribute to the life of Warren will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Kevin Starcher officiating. Burial will follow in Haven of Rest Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.
ETHEL M. GIBSON
Ethel M. (Hoffman) Gibson, 86, of Eleanor, passed away Monday, August 25, 2025. She was a member of New Vision Church of God in Eleanor.
Born October 10, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Jesse R. Hoffman and Macel Campbell Hoffman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Ronald Gibson; daughters, Teresa (Mike) Lilly of Buffalo and Rhonda Gibson of Eleanor; granddaughter, Christa (Dicky) Henline of Culloden; great grandchildren, Jameson Henline and Alessa Henline.
Funeral service was Friday, August 29, 2025 at Raynes Funeral Home, Eleanor, with Pastor Denny Lambert officiating. Entombment was in Haven of Rest Memory Gardens, Red House.
SANDRA KAY MOONEY
Sandra Kay Mooney, 75, of Scott Depot, passed away Friday, August 22, 2025.
She was born in 1950 to the late Charlie and Vera Gore in Boone County. Sandra attended Faith Christian Fellowship in Buffalo and Madison Baptist Church on occasion. She enjoyed singing, dancing, studying God’s Word, and loved spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, Sandra was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Mooney; sister, Sherry Dials; and infant brother, Danny Gore.
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Melissa (Donald) Pauley of Scott Depot; grandchildren Summer (Shaun) Ward of Winfield, Jacob Dempsey of Scott Depot, Luke Pauley of South Charleston, Amelia Pauley (Robert) Clutter of Morgantown; great-grandchildren Silas White, Nellea (Nelly) Dempsey, Cadence Ward, and Gracyn Ward; brothers Charles Gore of Robinson, WV and Larry Gore of Quinland, WV. Sandra is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Service for Sandra was Thursday, August 28, 2025 at Handley Funeral Home in Danville with Pastor Paul Boggess officiating. Burial was in Danville Memorial Park, Danville.
DEBORAH PAULEY
Deborah Dilynn “Debbie” Pauley, 68, of Winfield, passed away on Monday, August 25, 2025.
Debbie was a 1975 graduate of Poca High School and dedicated 25 years of service as an employee of Fruth Pharmacy in Winfield. She had a love for music, often found playing the piano, and enjoyed trips to the beach. Debbie was a faithful member of Lone Oak Church of God Mission.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Maxine Moles; brother, Jerry Moles; and father-in-law, Lonnie Pauley.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 28 years, Jerry Pauley; son, Tanner J. “T.J.” Pauley; mother-in-law, Linda Pauley; sisters, Annette Moles and Paula Dempsey; uncle, Manford (Norma) Moles; along with a host of extended family and friends.
A tribute to the life of Debbie was held Friday, August 29, 2025, at Lone Oak Church of God Mission with Pastor Scott Casto officiating. Burial was in New Antioch Cemetery, Red House.
SONYA PERRY
Sonya Marie Perry, of Hurricane, passed away at her home, August 29, 2025, at the young age of 60 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by loved ones and confident in her faith as she went to be with the Lord. Sonya was born to the late Harry and Jean Chapman on December 26, 1964. She was also preceded in death by husband Norman Laliberty; son, Joshua Roy; sister, Kathy Jackman; uncle, Mike Chapman; aunt, Linda Chapman and brother-in-law, Shawn Laliberty.
Sonya was a nurturer by nature. She was a 1995 graduate of Marshall University with a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing. She later went to further her education, earning a Master’s Degree in Nursing in 2009. Sonya only recently retired from CAMC after 30-plus years in the field that she loved. Her plan was to spend retirement with her family, animals and tending her flower gardens. She had a green thumb which she tried endlessly to pass on to friends and family.
Sonya is survived by her loving husband, Timothy Perry; children, Bryana Laliberty, Timmy (Kaitlan) Perry and bonus daughter, Heather McClure; grandchildren, Gavin, Gage, Corbin, Adrian, Evelyn, Ben and Jake; stepmother, Dorothy Chapman; parents-in-law, Larry and Karen Perry; siblings, T.C. (Janice) Chapman, Valerie (Charlie) Curry and Brent (Ellen) Perry; uncle, Keith Chapman; best friends, Crystal Perry, Christi Roach-White, Natalie Laliberty Richardson, Jamie Ritchie and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and co-workers.
Memorial service was Tuesday, September 2nd, at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane. Burial was in Enon Cemetery in Salt Rock.
S. LOUISE SOWARDS
Syvia Louise (Manning) Sowards, 79, of Hurricane, departed from this life to join our Lord in Heaven on August 24, 2025, following a short illness. She passed at Saint Mary’s Medical Center with her daughter by her side.
Louise was a lifelong resident of Hurricane and a 1963 graduate of Hurricane High School. She was a longtime employee of Miller Drug Store (later, Fruth Pharmacy) in Hurricane.
Louise is survived by her daughter, Melissa (Sowards) Hardy; son-in-law Kurt; and grandsons William and Jackson, all of Wesley Chapel, Fla. She is pre-deceased by her mother, Hester (Mitchell) Manning; father, William “Minor” Manning; sister, Joyce Manning; and husband, Garry Sowards.
Memorial service was Saturday, August 30. Burial was in Forest Memorial Park, Milton.
EDWIN WAYNE TUCKER
Edwin Wayne Tucker, 78, of Hurricane, passed away on August 26, 2025 at his home.
He was born to the late Charles W. Tucker and Helen Burch Tucker Connor on Sept. 7, 1946. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death his wife, Linda Roberts Tucker; sister, Nancy Moulder; and a brother, Robert Tucker.
Ed proudly served his country in the US Air Force and served in the Vietnam Conflict. He worked at Mouldagraph Corp as a machinist and welder, previously drove for Trailway Bus, although his passion was fishing in Texas.
He is survived by his children: Catherine (Jason) Miller and Thomas (Kayla) Tucker; grandchildren: Madison Crabtree, Haley Miller, Mason Crabtree, Keaira Tucker, Justin Tucker, Abby Nash, Emma Nash, Colton Tucker, and Caroline Tucker.
Memorial Service for Ed was Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at Chapman Funeral Home, Hurricane, with military honors.
