Pop Up Concerts Come to Hurricane

The City of Hurricane hosted a special Pop Up Concert at the gazebo on Saturday evening, March 27. Austin Lewis, lead guitarist of the Huntington-based rock group Ducain, and Paintsville, Kentucky-based musician Sean Whiting provided the evening’s entertainment.

This Pop Up Concert was the first in a series of concerts which will be scheduled this spring. When Governor Jim Justice relaxed the restrictions on gatherings, Mayor Scott Edwards used the opportunity to host a last-minute musical event at the gazebo. Mayor Edwards contacted Austin Lewis, who also works for the Bear Wood Company on Main Street, and Lewis got together with his friend Sean Whiting and made the concert happen. Mayor Edwards named the event a “Pop Up Concert,” after popular “pop up” vendor events.

The City of Hurricane plans to hold additional pop up concerts in April and May. Starting in June, Food Truck Friday will become a weekly event at the gazebo, with monthly evening edition events featuring live entertainment.

Businesses are encouraged to help sponsor future pop up events held by the City of Hurricane. Call 304-562-5896.
