Putnam County Library Brings Cardio Boxing to Bridge Park

Jace Heller, founder of Hellafit, provides cardio boxing instruction to youngsters at Putnam County Library’s Fitness Friday event at Hurricane Bridge Park.

Hellafit fitness center of 2704 Main Street in Hurricane temporarily moved to Bridge Park on Friday, July 14, to bring cardio boxing outdoors. The event was part of Putnam County Library’s Fitness Friday program. Throughout the summer, the Library has been holding Fitness Friday events at various locations throughout the county. Besides the cardio boxing class at Hurricane Bridge Park, previous events included a field day obstacle course at Valley Park; martial arts at Category Five Jiu-Jitsu; yoga at Moxie Fitness; a mindfulness walk at the Putnam County Fairgrounds; line dancing at the Hurricane Bridge Park; and a hike at the Esther Norman Walter Nature Trail on Red House Hill.

Two more Fitness Fridays remain this summer. On July 21, participants can find inner calm with guided meditation and breath work in the peace of the outdoors beside the flowing waters of the Kanawha River. This event will be held in the picnic shelter behind the Buffalo Library, along the same road as the Buffalo Senior Center. The class starts at 10 a.m.

On July 28, the Plymouth/Amherst Natural Wildlife Area hosts the final Friday event. The Wildlife Area is a lesser-known spot for getting outside in Putnam County. This 7,000+ acre protected area is perfect for a hike with family, walking your dogs, or riding your horse. Located just northwest of Bancroft on Rt 62, it is open to the public year-round. The walk will be on mostly flat gravel and dirt, about a mile to a low-water bridge where hikers can dip their toes in to cool off before returning to the trailhead. Meet up at 10 a.m. at 6360 Charleston Road, Red House.
